Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: for the most part people don’t understand drones so when they do they’re comfortable with it when they don’t they want to see it [Music] burn and then when you go out and see it in real life it’s like well that’s freaking cool as crap you remember that scene in Star Wars with the speeder bikes everybody watched that scene and you wanted to be on the speeder bikes flying fpv that’s the closest analogy to what that’s like so you might have seen Drone footage before but you probably haven’t seen Drone footage like this so if you’re prone to motion sickness you might want to grab a barf bag cuz it’s about to get wild [Music] since you’re little you dream of flying and you you know all the superheroes like you know um Superman and Iron Man basically that’s that’s the feeling FV gives you who hasn’t looked up at the sky and thought man I wish I could be Superman and just go 100 Mil an hour with the cinema camera so you’ve basically flying a little Lamborghini it is all manual when we fly these things every movement that you see is input or not input from the pilot it’s like Freedom you know it’s like total freedom separation of body and mind apart from flying a wing suit FV is as close as real flying as it can get you’ll get shaky your hands are shaking your heart is pounding this is an adrenaline rush get ready for like the ride of your [Music] life whether it’s diving down the side of a mountain skimming along the top of the water you know 100 miles an [Music] hour there’s no other feeling like it there’s no other way to get that Rush that you get when you’re flying fpv [Music] so flying fpv you’re always looking for like this dope spot to fly if you’ve ever skated most people are like oh they’re looking at stair sets and handrails rather than you know maybe an architecture of a building where with fpv we look at these things so differently now because you can fly in three-dimensional space with fpv technology it’s just up to your skills how crazy and good the shot gets [Music] having that Headroom on the power lets you do a lot of the crazy stuff that we’re able to pull off pulling out at a gap at the very bottom of a building dive to go underneath this [Music] tree the adrenaline is always there no matter how long you’ve been flying you feel the power you feel the speed The Sensation that you get or the adrenaline rush comes from directly comes from speed even now I get shaky hands I get uh almost dizzy about it a lot of times you don’t notice in the goggles it’s only when you come back and you’re like oh my hands are shaking why are my hands shaking cuz you just Dove you know 100 fet through a tiny little Gap with your drone that you really [Music] like the first time I saw fpv I thought to myself I’m never playing another video game again your environments are mountains rivers lakes marshes beaches whatever you want your environment to [Music] be it is the closest thing that you can get to Flying a fighter jet without actually flying a fighter jet you don’t strap into the jet you strap the jet onto you when you put on the goggles you are completely immersed and you don’t feel like you’re sitting there flying a drone you feel like you’re actually flying the adrenaline that goes through your veins is extremely similar to actually flying a fighter [Music] jet this is something that you could only do with these highly special [Music] quadcopters and you land and you take the goggles off and there you are in the park and you’re like what I feels like my life and a million dollars is on the line hi I’m James Christensen and I’m a documentarian I’m also an fpv drone pilot since 2018 and I have been watching many of the influencers and top drone Pilots these are very skilled Pilots around the world uh most of them posting on YouTube or Instagram which we’ll see mostly Instagram handles for all of the pilots represented in this film I have come out from LA to within a short drive of Atlanta Georgia Knoxville to Florida New York and also interviewed pilots from other countries as well 2020 is going to be a pivotal year for the history of drones when I say drones I mean quadcopters and it’s not limited to to drones or larger professional drones camera drones fpv drones delivery drones drones in general are going to have a very pivotal year in what is decided with the regulations coming from the FAA we have the protest coming up at the end of the month February 2020 in Washington DC it’s at the FAA building and these Pilots will come out and they’re going to protest the fact that they need to be able to save their Hobby and for many of them it’s a profession as well so come on this journey with me into the amazing fascinating Adrenaline Rush of fpv culture worldwide fpv firsters view first person view is you are not looking at the aircraft from the outside you are inside the aircraft virtually looking out back in 2008 I started putting cameras on um just remote control airplanes no fpv yet um and basically just trying to do some HD footage of of my surrounding neighborhood uh just out of out of my backyard I could launch a plane and fly in the most beautiful scenery back in the day there were no drones um it was only model aircraft um you had to buy cameras from like um baby uh baby monitors like hack the equipment out of it and then just tape it onto um not even purpose build airplanes just airplanes that would buy in an old uh Rusty model shop and basically we used old ski goggles and then we uh cut out the front and taped in some old personal video goggles and so we hacked up a receiver and like taped that to our face uh we bought Wi-Fi Range Extender antennas to to get more range out of our equipment so this was kind of the early days of hacking together equipment that really wasn’t made for fpv [Music] we had to make them back in the days because there was just no um purpose-built fpv equipment so that’s what we designed and then started to sell and then it turned into a business I started flying RC helicopters with the age of 12 or 13 so I’m in this RC hobby for a very long time for over 28 years all of us started with airplanes and helicopters and then move move to drones and that’s where a lot of experience comes from I actually started out with RC planes fix wi planes before I got into multi-rotors and mini quads that was some of the first aircraft that I built were fix s planes so really what inspired me to get into fvv was uh Team black sheet video which was trappy flying uh and they were flying wings and Diving down the sides of mountains with them and that kind of really set it off for me I’ve always wanted to Sky Dive and fly so this was just something where I didn’t have to put my body In Harm’s Way fpv actually started for me with trappie he was actually a huge inspiration with his TBS [Music] Discovery uh it wasn’t until I one of the forums that I learned like okay how do you put one of these together like oh shoot I got to pick up aering iron but I didn’t care I was like I want to figure this out figure out MacGyver style like you were just on internet forums for hours on end looking for answers and so people would just buy stuff and just plug it in and cross your fingers that the Magic Smoke wouldn’t come out because you just never knew in the beginning it was really janky people were using these we nunchucks and pulling the the Gyros and accelerometers out of that and putting them into these multi-rotors in order to be the sensors to get these things to fly so it was very like hacked together and we slowly started to get more things that were built specifically for the purpose um of flying fpv the the very first fpv drones had uh scavenged um surveillance cameras in them Bare Bones like basic literal security cameras most people are familiar with drones that they see in Best Buy like DJI Phantoms or mavic’s I think a camera drone is best thought of as a like a tripod in the sky it’s going to have larger props it’s going to have a gimbal so the camera can tilt while the Drone is sort of hovering in place a freestyler racing drone its goal is is to give the pilot the experience of flight it’s got a fixed angle and that means that the camera on it is actually up tilted a little bit so the pilot can be looking ahead while the quad pitches forward it was kind of a byproduct of being super lightweight to just Mount or strap a GoPro to your quad but it’s also something that was intentionally done to um provide the flying experience to the viewer and so every tilt every piece of movement that you see see that’s what the Drone is doing and that’s what makes fpv so unique is that the flying is more inherently the subject of the [Music] video for the most part people that fly fpv are used to very crappy video signals and just the Terri most terrible image you could ever expect someone to be able to fly an aircraft with this signal is super weak it’s super scratchy they’re static all the time so many people think that what we see in the goggles is like what a GoPro shows you cuz that’s what we show you guys when we upload the stuff to YouTube but now we got these new systems these new digital systems which are high [Music] definition so 2015 Dron Nationals was I think in my opinion and I I think I speak for a lot of people here it was probably one of the best fpv events ever probably because a it was the first time where people from like all around the world came together and it was really the first time you know people were staring to put you know names to faces because up until now our entire relationship within the community just existed on forums and [Music] messages so not long after the the Drone Nationals Dubai comes out with the world drone pre of [Music] 2016 and that was an absolute huge deal a because first of all y’all got to go to Dubai and you know Dubai is Big Grand and large and I remember showing up and they showed like the racetrack lit up at night so not only did it look crazy beautiful but the freaking track like articulated like it breathed and moved [Music] but the kicker a million dooll purse never heard of before and I feel like that just straight like legitimized drone [Music] racing and then the the the kid that try to to strangle with my arm is Luke banister known as bny UK who won the Dubai World drone Prix big race and as you can see in the photo this is the Hat Mr steel gave me uh to avoid the Sunburst on my almost bald head [Music] and then the freestyle scene kind of emerged with uh charoo to basically make it um [Music] artistic I would watch you YouTube all the time and I found sharpo uh flying around these trees and these abandoned spots and I thought that was it was just mind-blowing the very first time I ever saw that sharu was very very creative he’s actually was an animator at DreamWorks and so I think a lot of that carried over he just would come up with some of the most wild ideas for videos a lot of people who are in fpv think of some of the early like sharoo videos um the early rotor Riot episodes he’s a taxi driver from Mexico City that’s where we got him we picked him up he’s now a professional quad pilot you know there’s going to be a point where people are going to be shooting down drones cuz they’re everywhere right so that’s kind of like a way of like testing it seeing it you know seeing if we can actually shoot down one of these little drones that we generally fly the odds are very slim and want to put bets on I think it’ll be a lucky shot anybody lucky shot going to be really hard but I kind of want it to happen if you want to know about nearly anything you just go search it on YouTube at least that’s what I do and I think a lot a lot of people maybe they discover the hobby by watching fpv pilots on YouTube Someone shares a clip with them I would say like 2014 is really when it started and then it’s kind of exponentially grown since then um but yeah putting security systems and remotely flying aircraft via goggles is just something that’s been around for a while we’ve just refined it a lot in the last six years being able to fly is such an amazing experience and my goal is to help everybody who wants that amazing Transcendent experience be able to get through the obstacle course and be able to enjoy the Hobby People send me things occasionally this is a sign that a local guy made for me with my slogan on it that’s kind of cool I’m J Bardwell and you’re going to learn something today so my brand is fpv know-it-all it’s a little bit tongue and cheek at least that’s the intent uh I don’t literally know everything barwell answers everybody that guy never stops like when we’re shooting together he’s just in the back seat on the way to the spot just nonstop on the phone answering every question that the patience of that man a lot of my content is for beginners because much of my content is driven by the questions that I get I let my email inbox every morning write my editorial calendar for me if I start getting a question five six seven times i’ just like I got to make a video about it the antennas that come with the goggles have this shoulder here to prevent you from twisting off the internal SMA connector it kind of cinches it down so I have a degree in computer science from Georgia Tech so I’ve got this background in computers and familiarity with computers and maybe even a little bit of programming when I was a kid my dad was into Electronics he taught me to solder so I’ve got this background with Electronics another piece of my background that I think really makes a difference is that I spent about 10 years as an instructor and a course Weare designer doing classroom instruction not like academic but like corporate I spent a lot of time figuring out how to break complex topics down into an understandable way and then communicate them to people uh in a way that the people could could get I think that’s what I’m most proud of is the people out there who say I wouldn’t be in the air if it weren’t for bardwell’s video [Music] I got into fbv fairly quickly mainly just because of my background of electronics engineering and being around my father that’s a DIY self-employed electronics engineer at home this Workshop behind me is where I put together all the drones and whatever projects I’m working on hey guys so this is my drone wall this is where I keep all of my older drones that I don’t really fly anymore it’s just kind of a decorative way to store these things you know I built this thing for a race in Dubai and then ended up like kind of making it into some long range drone where I don’t necessarily always fly far away but this thing will fly for like 12 minutes opposed to my normal 3 to 5 so this is like my very first drone ever this is a mini quad made by a company called blackout this particular quad got run over by a trophy truck on my very first commercial gig ever and this thing fail safed which means it lost RC connection fell out of the sky onto the racetrack and got run over so so this drone right here is like the combination of six years of R&D and testing and trial and error every time I go out this is exactly every video I’ve ever made has been flown with something either similar to this or this exact unit itself so like anything skateboarding working on cars you got to have the right tool for the right job and so this is a typical 2mm driver that we would use to work on drones in the last few years technology has become a little bit more accessible and obviously these drones are becoming easier and easier to build uh so that’s drawing in more and more people the fpv community mainly takes place on the internet we’re spread across the globe and most interactions with each other are all done on Facebook groups fpv is basically this one giant tribe from all around the world when I go live on any social media platform there are people from all over the world that will comment in whether or not they’re from Asia Europe South America it doesn’t matter so there’s a lot of very interesting interactions that you have when you have like this broad worldwide social media reach for a very niche market but also because in a lot of places there just aren’t any other fpv Pilots you could be like the only one in your small town and you just kind of got to do it yourself social media has enabled us to find each other and congregate in these bigger groups like I have thousands of people that I interact with online on social media so when you get a chance to go to an event and meet other pilots in person I think it’s really special it’s really important it gets the keyboard out of the way and gets you face to [Music] face the fbv community in general is just so helpful you know it’s a place where everyone just contributes ideas and goes to find inspiration I learned myself from the community you know I go back and learn and try to find find new things that I hadn’t known about see whatever people are working on it’s this place where everyone learns and I think that that’s just so amazing to have we created the TBS Lounge which is like a lounge for fbv Pilots to hang out and just talk about whatever they want except politics and uh it has to be fpv related so it has come be kind of the center of the fpv community and everybody who who does anything that they want to boast about or share or help other people at least one fun F meme a day in the in the TVs Lounge but it’s always related to something fpv right so we kind of joke that when you become a pilot the first thing you do is make a logo pick a pilot name then you build your drone and Learn to Fly what is it with pilots in their brands I don’t know the answer to this question as soon as they get into the hobby they want to hire somebody to make them a logo but I cannot explain it to you I get it probably has something to do with social media culture that’s how you rep your brain that’s how you like give your buddies a sticker you know like the sticker just indicates like I knew this guy or you met this person in person if he becomes your identity so why would you not you know want to buy the URL get some stickers made of your name let everybody know what your pilot name is it’s a way to reinvent yourself everybody has sticker everybody has stickers please stop sending me stickers no I’m just kidding [Music] [Music] [Applause] Surfers are really protective of their spots cuz like there’s only so many waves right if there’s a really good spot and somebody else gets your wave you’re not going to get it and it feels like fpv Pilots are a little bit like that too um or they could piss off the security guards or get the cops called on you maybe you’re not quite supposed to be there but if you’re cool about it then you won’t get in any trouble we’ve had police ride up on us and not know what we’re doing alone in a parking lot and making all this noise well these kind police officers want to go for a quick [Music] ride but you put the goggles on them you take them for a ride they think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve ever seen and we get away with getting to stay at a lot of spots that way the only other thing that like how I recognize fpv drone Pilots is massive backpacks that airports so like you can pick out a a drone pilot from a th000 people easily because they have a backpack full of stuff and they always get check at security the king of carrying extras is definitely Corey like today his bag was like 50 lb and mine was maybe [Music] 20 you never fly your last pack so the minute you say this is my last pack then I’m going home you’re going to lose your quad it’s going to explode some people keep a Charged pack and that is their quote unquote last pack and they just leave it I’m not making this up they superstitiously just leave their last pack in their backpack but the quad Gods know that’s not really your last pack they you can’t fool them that simply a lot of people who used Toc skateboard and now they’re like they’re middle-aged and they’re tired of breaking their bones end up as fpv Pilots because it’s like the same kind of thrill and challenge to do a new trick so with skateboarding you typically show up to a spot and then you kind of explore it and find out what you can use what you can’t use maybe a handrail skate stair sets or Ledges with fpv you really do the same thing so you show up and you’re like wow there’s a gap there there’s this hole here there may be some you know some kind of weird thing that can slide [Music] on you know you’re looking for cool spots but instead of handrails you’re looking for dive [Music] gaps if you have a flat parking lot there’s probably nothing interesting to skate there once you have elevation changes and you have stairs there’s something cool to skate there same thing applies with [Music] fpv it really does feel like skateboarding in the air my friends that don’t fly ask me what it’s like I say it’s like skateboarding in the [Music] air and I also have a a large background or a long history of skateboarding which I think also carried over and it makes sense that a lot of Pilots come from these worlds that was that was like the The New Normal was to break things with flying fpv I can chase that same itch I can try to push myself without risking more titanium rods in my [Music] body you’re like okay here we go oh no I crashed oh no I screwed it up and pack after pack after pack after pack after pack until sometimes you break through I thrash my drones I don’t give a what my drones look like I don’t care as long as they fly I’m throwing it through that Gap you know it’s going to slam into a wall and still take off the props are bent whatever just keep flying if I were still skating I would be injured all the time um so yeah you can either break your legs or your wrists or you can just break your pocketbook and fly up PV somewhere out there there’s somebody who’s like that’s the whole point brao is that it’s there’s something on the line but you reach a point in your life where you’re tired of going to the hospital with broken bones and sprained and and you’re just like I’m done with that said you get everything together for a nice day out with your friends plug in you get your tones put your goggles on no video This is why fpv is like such a pain in that is sometimes or then you left something at home and then you left something at home that’s the main one or you didn’t charge a GoPro or you didn’t charge a go or you didn’t charge your radio or you didn’t charge your radio so what’s the solution tell us just bring four or five quads you never have to worry about four or five quads three or four GoPros I don’t go as hard as Cory does so I don’t do as much damage to my equipment as Cory does how about that I remember my first time breaking something I was like oh my God I broke a prop and people were like Ah that’s nothing if you spend your whole time being terrified that you’re going to crash then you’ll never get better that’s really the only way that you’re going to really learn and Excel as a pilot like you just got to be willing to break something and let’s face it that’s kind of like half the fun right you egg each other on you’re like hey I bet you can’t hit [Music] [Applause] that there’s a branch up there trees grab you trees will pull you right out of the air trees will gobble you up and not let you fall to the ground and heaven forbid you get into a palm tree cuz that’s like the end all that’s it you get in top of a palm tree and you’re [Music] done first pack with my freestyle quad I’m a racer check this out where skateboarding sometimes takes you know 100 tries and you can fall down hurt yourself really bad and that’s going to affect your next line FV is just a drone get a new drone fix the motor whatever it is and you continue to hit that crazy Gap or do that crazy line until you do [Music] it the movement can just seem really random but it’s actually very practiced we actually have a whole set of defined tricks because start with the split s everybody’s first trick is a split [Music] s you know some of the most common ones would be like a power Loop where you go under something and power and loop around and come back under [Music] it every trick in fpv really boils down to a combination of three basic moves the roll the pitch which is a flip or yah and the first time you go to a place there’s like this magic to it because you don’t know where all the lines are you don’t know everywhere that you can flow so it’s a little bit exploratory [Applause] [Music] it might be your second pack or it might be your 20th pack you just don’t know but there’s always that one pack that you know you’re going to get the best clips from there’s that one [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so like and I feel like that fpv is definitely a transition from BMX or any type of skateboarding BMX snowboarding cuz that thing of flow like just the flow of cruising down a mountain or hitting that grind that you want it is pretty much identical to hitting the gap or hitting this Bando that you wanted to fly I mean you just don’t have to get hurt it’s beautiful carbon carbon so that we can basically just like break [Music] the I may never make it into Tony Hawks Pro Skater but it did make it into a drone simulator and I I’ll count that as a win good morning we are now in Orlando Florida where we are going to visit today with rotor riot uh I just got off the phone with Drew we’re going to go meet up at the warehouse and we’re going to find a bando which is um an abandoned lot or abandoned structure of some [Music] kind we’re in Orlando Florida at the rotorat headquarters where we’ve got our offices our studio and our warehouse rotorat was founded by Chad kapper it’s like his second RC YouTube Venture after flight test it was founded with the idea of being at the center of fpv culture and it really evolved to be at the center of fpv freestyle culture specifically the idea was get top pilots and personalities put them together on a show I’m Joshua Bardwell I’m Alex vanover I’m Shan Morrison and I’m L and have them challenge each other go on adventures and take the audience along with them the episodes we make are supposed to be educational teach you a little bit about how to do the this whole fpv thing and more importantly it’s supposed to be inspirational we’re really lucky to have a team that in their own way wants to inspire people to fly and help them get into this hobby be sure to like subscribe we’ll catch you on the next one so this would be like our go-to build it’s the HD1 and uh it’s based on the original cl1 frame we modified it to accommodate the DJI system just by making a little bit longer it’s probably our cheapest frame but it’s still very durable with like 5 mm arms it can take a pretty a pretty good beating this is something new we’re doing it’s the digi whoop so it’s kind of reminiscent of the tiny whoops so it’s a little bit bigger it’s I think it’s a 2in prop rather than think true tiny whoops are like 1in props but it’s actually digital right so it’s using the cadx Vista so it’s compatible with the DJI system so to be able to fly something this small where you could really fly it I mean this is more than enough space you could fly this around your house and have digital HD it’s pretty fun what is aando aando is an abandoned building [Music] abandoned buildings that that’s another thing where F really became popular because people were exploring uh abandoned buildings and factories flying into windows exploring old you know facilities [Music] bandal are golden just because of the layout there’s so many the way it looks on film the way it feels to fly the structures of it there’s holes everywhere there cool things number one you have structures number two you typically don’t have Windows or glass in the windows so all of those openings are openings that you can fly through [Music] [Applause] [Music] elevator shafts Windows there’s so many different variations of what you can do in a bando so today we are doing a rotor Riot shoot kind of on location um there’s some local Pilots that I saw flying this really cool looking Bando and I reached out to them um actually one of them is my buddy Edwin K A Rod yo and when I started flying I lived in Detroit and I lived there for the first you know 3 years of me flying and we have Bandos everywhere you there’s little areas in Detroit where you got five worldclass spots all within 10 minutes of each other I mean some of them you could literally fly the other Spot while you’re standing at one spot Bandos are usually always going to be concrete metal Rusty gritty when you crash it’s pretty brutal I do love flying tree spots too it’s a great place to train but when you get to a bando that’s like that’s the best fpv experience I think this is amazing wow amazing are you kidding me [Music] dog just flying in in open space is boring so you’re looking for obstacles and aando is like it’s a holy grail of obstacles because you can crash into anything nobody’s going to complain there’s not going to be any people there so it’s perfectly safe it’s just the ultimate playground uh for for fpv Pilots freestyle is about pushing the limits of the Drone being fast and agile but also creating a beautiful shot the subject of that shot is the movement of the Drone itself it’s highlighting the the Drone capability and the pting skill in an Artful way well now I’m rolling out of it sideways so you got to think on your feet and turn that to the next thing and just keep the line [Music] going you got holes in walls that are blown out that you can fly through you’ve got uh shafts you can dive down all sorts of ways that you can push yourself and what the Drone is doing and with a really high risk factor because this is all concrete this is metal when you crash it’s not like you’re crashing in the branches of a tree it’s a nice little cushion for you to go in you’re probably going to break something yeah I’ll leave yeah band’s a great dnamic spot for fpv because you get all of these different diverse types of elements I mean you can fly inside the actual buildings themselves where you’re just trying to not hit anything or you can fly the outsides of the buildings and kind of dive along the side or do these wall rides along the side inside the building itself I saw these two this pair of cylinders and so I was trying to do a big Power loop around those and I finally ended up getting it which is [Music] awesome we’re out there and we’re watching each other fly and all we want to do is see the other people improve and push the other people to the best of their abilities and there’s nothing more fun than that we really push each other when we watch each other fly especially in person you see them pull off something like okay I got to do no I got to one up that I’ve got to take that trick and make it even better sometimes you will smack right into a metal beam but the these drones are pretty tough and a lot of the times you’ll be able to bend the props back and fly again and if you’re really good sometimes you’ll be able to recover and fly away from the [Applause] crash for the past 5 years I’ve been as engaged as I can be to help the fa develop reasonable and appropriate policy uh I was on the registration task force in 2015 then two other Aviation rulemaking committees for flight over people as well as remote ification and I’ve been on the Drone advisory committee for the past several years as long as it’s existed The Arc provided an 80-page report to the FAA which set out different ways to accomplish remote ID but didn’t recommend any single way to do it and so you know what you had is is these stakeholders agreeing that look at the end of the day this remote ID requirement has to be reasonable has to be low cost low burden has to respect privacy and then you have the FAA two years later actually not listening to that part of the advice I think what the FAA came out with is a proposal that is overly burdensome and and overreaching they want every aircraft over 250 g 0.55 lb in the National airspace of the United States to continuously report its location and other information about itself back to a central database it it’s an all of the above approach in which you have to provide remote ID information in more than one way um and in ways that are extremely costly it would be very easy and very um low impact to come up with a solution that’s based on the RF we already use but instead they’re coming up with these very odd ideas about essentially building an iPhone into your drone this hobby is really expensive we put a lot of time money and energy into it so I can’t imagine paying a cell phone subscription for each of my [Music] drones so as far as a small business um a modular remote ID unit would be absolutely critical because we don’t you know the fpv market is kind of small and and when you innovate you’re not going to sell a whole lot of units right right off a bat so something modular that you can put into a custom build you know very simply is it’s going to be critical as far as allowing Innovation to happen so people building their own drones can add the remote ID component to it and comply with the rule uh otherwise you’re you’re going to have a remote Ida solution ultimately that fails and doesn’t satisfy the government’s needs individual hobbyists innovators stem programs small companies all are just going to not be able to exist if this is not possible to build your custom drone or to innovate and maybe Tinker a bit and change something here and there you would basically take away those shots and the possibility of doing things in the future that we maybe even cannot think of today at DJI we don’t just advocate for what’s good for us we really are advocating for what’s good for the entire drone community so one of the things we did is we proactively developed a remote ID solution called drone to phone that shows the FAA and other regulators that a broadcast solution works it works in an urban environment and it would be free because it would involve software changes to many drones and a phone app that people could download and use for free and you would not need any of that Network infrastructure the service providers that are expected to charge monthly fees the network connectivity which comes with its own costs and complexities products that are sold will have to comply and then at some point products that you have that can’t do remote ID would have to stop being used the worst thing is I’ve got 15 to 20 drones that are going to be pretty much worthless if that doesn’t get um changed and um and and a lot of people in are in the same boat I’m in these proposed regulations are trying to blanket kill an entire industry when in reality what we’re doing is just for fun we’re not trying to spy on people or deliver packages we just want we want the ground we want like 20 ft that’s about it you know most freestyle racing drones we’re not going super high in the air if we had to go to fly in just little areas and just little Parks I mean it would just take away all the creativity and just uh what makes fpv what it actually is like the real core of it who wants to be stuck at the same designated park with probably zero features along with the 50,000 other people that are all trying to do the same thing it’s kind of sad because we think what we’re doing is pretty safe it’s pretty awesome it’s a really interesting and multifaceted hobby that kind of gets pushed into into an illegal space where fpv fits into the current rule that’s proposed and the industry that’s trying to be created by companies like Amazon and Google is that in my opinion it really doesn’t and that’s pretty much exactly what the rule tells us there is no place for you here you will not fly it’s just shooting ourselves in the foot other countries are going to take off and run with this technology and American innovation is going to die uh the entire drone industry grew out of hobbyists there has to be a way to to balance both sides where you can keep things safe but still have the freedom to to fly anywhere definitely worth saving it’s worth protecting and defending at this point in 2020 there was just kind of a period of being in the dark you know the FAA is not usually receiving more than say 5,000 comments in a comment period they received 53,000 comments from the community not only to mention that an actual protest happened at the FAA building and nothing like this had ever happened before but key individuals like Brennan Schulman and say David mesina from the fpv freedom Coalition they really helped effectively advocate for the fpv Drone Community as well as really just any recreational drone flyer me speaking back into 2020 at this point the pilots and the community really thought at large there was there was no way this was going to change are we going to lose our hobby as we know [Music] it this is something I believe is going to be very significant no matter what the outcome is of the uh nprm this notice proposed rulemaking uh I’ve got to capture it we’ve got to capture what happens here in 2020 I bought a plane ticket I’m packing up my camera and my gear and I’m going to fly to Washington DC me meet up with some of these influencers that I’ve met with and capture this day of protest because this is history in the making but in the back of my mind I’m thinking how is this going to make an impact if people don’t really know what fpv drones are in this amazing Community my expectations for today um I think it’s mostly important that there just is a presence here I think that the actual communication with the FAA is going to happen in more sort of private meetings and committees I mean I think one of the biggest problems is that they don’t really even know we exist um I know that the organizers have a bunch of stuff planned there’s going to be picketing I’m mostly just looking forward to uh seeing who comes and uh showing the people in our community that we are going to be out here fighting for him is is roay going to riot here no we are not not this is not a place is a place to peacefully protest and to have our voices heard why are you still in bed okay let’s keep let’s go I’m a little nervous that it’s not going to be a huge turnout um cuz we’re so spread out and it’s it’s it feels like we have such a large community but it’s just like it’s like this thin membrane spread across the world if it was ever going to matter if it was ever going to be worth taking time off work and getting on a plane and doing something expensive and obtrusive and inconvenience it’s kind of kind of now if you actually care about this stuff there’s a lot of power in coming together physically especially for a community that is so spread out and does most of its communication and interaction electronically regardless of how you do it why you do it what you’re doing it for we all love this weird Hobby and it’s under threat and we got to do something about it the FAA released its notice of proposed rulemaking that’s called nprm um just after Christmas in 2019 um which then started a 60-day comment period [Applause] the protest was held in February on the last day to submit comments kind of as a way to raise awareness with all the live streams and everything that happened all the pictures posted to Instagram and social media uh Enoch fpv had taken the initiative to plan day of protest people from all over the country come in here to save their access to hobby flight and together this community has now really created a bunch of momentum and this momentum is going to move forward in a way that I don’t think the FBA was expecting was just a really profound statement that I don’t think a lot of people in the FAA had truly grasped until we showed up on their door we do need things like remote ID and registration but we need to do it in a way that is reasonable and fair to the community and to the technology it’s very understandable why this community would come out and protest on a cold day with picket signs in front of the FAA uh because I I I think they read a proposal that doesn’t take into account their concerns uh and is not realistic for the kinds of Technology they use it was a great turnout I mean it was a far bigger turnout than I had imagined it was a really cold day I I marched um I held signs and I chanted mostly I think what I did was I got to connect with other people who were there we did our chance we marched and we did actually like get people coming up to us on the street asking what this is about we actually got uh news articles written about the movement it’s one piece of fighting for this Hobby and we’ll go back to Washington as many times as it takes to make sure that the world actually knows that first off we exist and that what we do is worth [Music] saving 1 2 we had about 250 people out there all um taking time out of their day and ages ranging out there from 10 years old to 80 years old we had kids there that were brought by their moms there was a whole group of fpv moms with their 13-year-old kids that were into this hobby because it’s the youth who were also a part of this let’s keep this St going so I’ve been into FV for about four years and it’s stuck with me more than anything else I’ve done before um and it’s allowed me to learn just so much more than I’ve I would have ever expected when I started when I heard the fa was trying to take away drones I went to my first protest ever we went down there people assembled people are very passionate about fbv and it was so awesome to see everybody it’s important for influencers to show up to not only show that they care but also to meet the people that they’ve influenced and for me personally I met a dude that he he’s from Alaska and he drove here based on a video that I made a week ago it was cool to be able to go up there and show my support and hang out with people that are also supportive of you know stopping extra drone regulation that is unnecessary I see the need for regulation to make sure people have stay safe but overregulation is going to stifle any amount of innovation we can stand and do everything that we need to do as a United [Music] body at minimum give us a way to throw a module on our drone so that we can comply it may not end today this may just be the beginning there’s going to be a lot of steps after this it’s not we’re not going to win just from having a protest in the park but the protest in the park is giving us all more power we’re going to protect our access to the sky and we’re going to do it together as one community [Music] basically when I got started in fpv I just had really got to flying with the goggles on and um approximately a month after that my daughter passed away and so in in the midst of all that Agony and um pain I was going through basically I could go to the park after after work and um fly my drones and I get away from all that I was feeling you know and was bothering me um inside for three minutes at a time I got to get up in the air and fly and um on occasion you know I actually even felt closer to my daughter but that that laid the um foundation for me in fpv and why I feel like I should give back so much youry come this way my local community needed somebody like me to help out and I stepped up and now we have great races and and it’s still a part of my life two and a half years later nice Pilots are you ready let me see your thumbs one two three Pilots are ready Pilots arm your quads on the tone less than [Music] five so one of the things that makes multi-p so instrumental in the hobby is that it is near you there’s so many chapters around the world uh both local chapters and then those local chapters will Branch into a regional chapter so for instance we’re filming here in South Carolina and not 20 minutes away there’s a multi-p chapter here in Greenville that’s very active races regularly and so it’s very important that if someone’s looking to pick up fpv here in Greenville for example they can go out there and see what fpv actually is [Music] I am not a racer I cannot compete on that level uh the I’ve tried it it’s just different skill sets and a different discipline cuz racing the level is so high today you need to do that and that only if you want to be at the top [Music] that time by laughing a 24375 which breaks the previous record I’m 17 years old now and I started flying remote control airplanes with my dad at the age of six I started getting into RC airplanes flying them competitively at around the age of 10 my name is EV Turner I’m from Knoxville Tennessee right on what’s your position right now uh either first or second I’m not sure so cool to go from flying these remote control airplanes third person to being able to sit inside of one and that’s really what drew me into it multi- GP is very Grassroots everyone’s building their own drones you can do whatever you’d like to these drones to make it fly to the best of your ability and preferences so I was able to go to a local chapter meet with a group of guys that were already sanctioned through multi-p and get my racing Journey started there’s just so much to fpv nowadays and it’s gotten a lot better but having someone there that’s local and can help you out through the building and purchasing process is super beneficial get the most fun Racing for anyone and everyone whether it’s your first race or your 100th race that is multi gp’s goal is to grow the sport of drone racing and to make it as fun as possible for each and [Music] everyone so for the world’s best racers in my opinion the multi-p national championship is the Pinnacle of the sport they take fpv truly uh to a worldwide scale if you go on to multi GP you will find a tractor in your area and you will find Pilots that you can fly with whether you want a race or not with the multi- GP drone Racing League over 20,000 pilots from across the world use our platform for organizing and making drone racing most efficient right behind me on this awesome uh track here at Daytona stadium in beautiful Daytona Florida we’re battling it out for a DRL contract over 10,000 in cash prizes and bragging [Music] rights for the last two years we’ve been one of the primary sponsors of the multi-b national championship at multigp events you can just be in the stands as a spectator with your own goggles on your face and watching the Pilot’s feed live coming from my competitive background I really just had a drive to want to not be the second best not be the third best but to be the best I saw and I got to meet all these guys and see the community behind it and see how bad everyone else wanted it and I knew that I had the drive and the will to want it more if not the same amount as them so I worked very very hard and I came back in 2018 and actually was able to win my first multi-p national championship we’re pretty famous for being the main sponsor at U multip iio every year it’s in Muny Indiana in August and it’s pretty much the biggest celebration of fpv there’s 400 500 Pilots there every year and we all just get together and have a great time you would think it would be specifically for racing but because you have people traveling to go to this race and they’re from all over the world you get this kind of like mixing Melting Pot of people that show up that don’t even race and they’re just like coming over because they know there are going to be a lot of top name Pilots there it’s kind of transformed from just a race in the last few years to like almost this tomorrow landesque style event that happens for fpv like they have these tiny whoop things where they light up hoops and fly through them and it’s a it’s a fun environment to be in take it easy take it easy hold on there you go okay let’s go initially there was a whole situation where if you plugged in on somebody else’s Channel and that caused someone to crash then like the marsh would come if anybody Powers up his quad above the allowed power level or during another person’s race he was going to hammer and smash to quad that was like the rumor and nobody had that happened yet it was all Bluff and then all of the sudden someone turned in on a freestyle flight line and it caused someone in a race to crash and all these people came over from the race and they were all upset and the founder of multi GP at the time Chris Thomas was over there with the hammer and then I was like you won’t do it and eventually yeah he got hammered they literally just put the quad on this table and hammered it and then I made a video about it and it became Hammer gate he ended up um replacing it because he felt bad for the kid that event is now known as Hammer gate plugging in on somebody is the worst thing you can do that’s the biggest social faux PA not to mention just being rude if somebody’s flying in the air you want to find out what channel they’re on if you’re on a close Channel and you plug in you’re going to block out their view you know they’re going to get all static or they’re going to see your drone on the ground do not plug in on people don’t be that person you go out there and you’re flying somebody Powers up you’re like who who powered up who powered up but you got to have a sense of humor about it because you’re going to do it to somebody else too probably [Music] [Applause] [Music] eventually lately I’ve been more focused on the Cinematic side of fpv and a lot of the designs are just motiv at by a certain shot that someone might might want to get and the design is all driven by the needs of the the [Music] pilots one of the designs that really got popular of mine um was the squirt which is a a tiny little ducted drum that I originally designed for Robert Macintosh so it’s a little 3-in ducted um drone for carrying a GoPro Hero to a little bit slower a little more focused on a subject instead of on the of a piloting skills I mean especially Andy he he created the squirt that was you know technology that enabled uh people to do shots that were not possible before and that created a whole new style of shooting uh drone videos it’s just giving people a totally new perspective of our world [Music] flying a cine whoop is very different from flying any other rig they bring a level of safety to this which is pretty nice because now you can fly around people and just the general reaction that we get from people is really [Music] positive and then suddenly you have a machine that can fly and be touched by people and go through people and that’s what I really like about it you can have this whole interaction of movement and uh then it becomes like kind of like a dance between you and the Drone and that person and you feel like you’re actually with the person performing with [Music] them so I did this video with ly lalii who is a professional longboarder and we just went and did this awesome video had a lot of fun he did the single greatest uh C video ever still the long barder and he kept like catching it throwing it like going under the skateboard you know it was such a perfect video and that he had a great location had a great subject great music great editing and yeah it opened up like this whole genre of flying and that’s now like part of I mean it’s almost 50% of what people fly I’d say and now it’s kind of spawned the whole movement and a million clones of uh the original design fpv is not just one thing it’s a whole spectrum and it’s really both for me freestyle and cinematic go hand in hand um you have to have the technicality but you have to have the eye as well I have a lot of respect for those people that basically night and day think about how can we do things differently and how can we push Innovation to create even cooler shots Tommy uh you my god um who came up with this you know little conversion of the C whoops where you basically Decay it a GoPro and then put it on top and that became that became a standard now you know more often than not you know I have a director ask me like oh can you get like this close to the guy’s face I want to make out his eyelash and you know fly to this tiny little Gap and today we’re at a point where we are literally just taking apart a GoPro down to this bare minimum so that it can fit onto a small little form factor like this I mean look at this guy you can pretty much fly this through [Music] anything the third one I have is called the thick it’s an uh 7in X8 which is an octocopter so instead of four Motors has eight so it can lift uh a bigger camera like a black magic pocket or a red Komodo the center of mass of the Drone is as centered as possible and it’s it’s quite timely that all these manufacturers are coming out with kind of smaller form factor cameras that are worthy of feature films you know [Music] [Applause] [Music] I’ve been on shoots with uh gab and nerk and they’re like they’re almost like a computer programmed robotic arm they can fly the same line again and again and again so for a director it’s almost like having this instant camera that can go anywhere because you know you never know what the directors start throwing at you it is definitely skill-based 100% [Music] uh snowboarding uh wake boarding I see a lot of wakeboarding content it’s just pretty uh wild some of the stuff that’s out there now like snowboarding is cool you know um mountain biking is a perfect example [Music] wing suit Pilots base jumpers paragliders all these kind of things that previously you couldn’t really film very safely are now possible because of fpv and because of mini quads with fpv you can get real close to someone and you can move in a similar way to that person [Music] around [Music] mixing drifting and fpv is kind of the best of what we’ve got right now in two different hobbies and art forms these two together like the two troublemakers together just makes sense in the end I think he next R A so we are constantly hearing what the director says and sometimes when we’re lucky we get to be on the big screen over there this is also by the way live uh and hundreds of thousands of people are watching it across the world so you better not mess it up cuz if you do everyone’s going to see it live is completely it’s is a completely different animal but yeah I love it cuz you get to work with new technologies and try things out this thing that we did no one re did it before in that form and we made those fpv drones uh just so that they can fly uh with that technology on [Music] I think we all like Adrenaline Junkies and a hobby cuz we’re just looking for it with drifting with cars drifting at 100 m an hour and US flying about a meter away from them [Music] especially when you see some of the shots that can be done of drift cars you quickly realize there’s no other way to get a shot like this [Music] drifting an FV just is like the perfect match drifting cars are not that super fast they always have the same speed it looks spectacular because you have smokes and tires you know bursting and it goes really well with each other just because the way a car drifts around a corner is very similar to how a drone flies on a bank turn is very much like a dance when you pair the two [Music] together drifting you know is kind of like an art you’re out there you know the drivers are doing the things trying to hit those lines smooth trying to get that time and the Drone above it is also just trying to keep its line above the drift car trying to get those smooth lines and they just complement each other so well drifting is very much an art form also it’s got this like technological Motors sportsy kind of modification culture around it and that’s like the same exact thing as fpv uh- [Music] uh- yeah uh-huh uh [Music] uh-huh a lot of people in the fpv community view Atlanta as the mecca they want to go there they want to fly these spots just having the diversity of like a growing expanding City all the foliage and then the Melting Pot of people and culture that lives here it just ultimately became like this amazing fpv Mecca early on in fpv so many great fpv Pilots seemed to come out of Atlanta and they formed this community together that was just this amazing birthing ground for great fpv skill um I think they all made themselves better as a result of all these great Pilots being together in the same Community they’re like a really special breed of people like they have very short attention SP and but they are like neurotically focused on details at in other areas right so so like the communication is it’s like hurting cats but um once they’re on site and and everything is ready to go like they make magic [Music] happen when you have a community to inspire you to challenge you to show you things that you would never have thought were possible you become better everyone becomes better as a [Music] result Atlanta specifically in 2016 it was all about me Steele skitso and wild Willie uh Willard Nick Willard we always had this really ambitious like wanting to push things all the time and and not necessarily trying to stay ahead of the Curve it was just something that came natural to us meeting up with Kevin and John and a couple people I hear quads let see what’s going down we would always just push each other I would you know be flying around a spot trying to find lines and then I would watch Kevin I would tap into his feet and be like oh I didn’t know we could do that the progression in that little group in that little area is just intense like you go there you come back feeling like you really accomplish something huge every pilot down there is really killing it God that guy back guess who else moved to Atlanta have you ever heard of this guy I don’t know it’s just a big Melting Pot of very extreme and uh talented people so I just want I’m just looking forward to getting together with a bunch of great pilots and a bunch of friends and just flying for a Day Kevin is like just has this innate like magical like skill to find dope spots to fly at it was just really easy to go there and just on the daily find a new spot that was really cool to rip at there’s so many good spots in Atlanta I don’t know if it’s just because I lived in Atlanta for a while because of the schools that are there you know Georgia Tech being one there’s a lot of uh technically minded people that adopted fpv early on and so you have all of these amazing office parks that we’re able to fly it has more trees per square mile than any other Metropolis in the US plugging in all the [Music] analog this is an amazing spot office Parks like this are so much fun there’s so much cool architecture to interact with there will be Carnage there will be I mean mine won’t be too broken cuz I’m running the binder AFX frame which is the strongest frame on the market right now but there will be some Carnage for sure when we get together it’s like you know hey what have you been working on or what’s that what’s changed on your drone cuz it’s always like an everchanging process there’s new technology there’s new equipment there might be New Motors New props all of this stuff like equ equates to how the Drone flies and honestly it’s just fun to interact and kind of share the knowledge of what you’ve done and what see what other people have done Vista naked Vista oh that’s hot but uh what’s your controller Still Still X9 X90 baby you send the lad up and get you watching how many times I reside in Greenville South Carolina at the moment um I’m a part-time mppb pilot I work a lot um whenever I get the chance I go out and fly empty parking lots I love it probably going to do it till the day I die all right I’m ready to rip let’s go fly [Music] wo w [Music] [Applause] [Music] tet terrified wo [Applause] [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] um frequency management was a lot easier with less people um the bigger it gets the more confusing it gets the more tempers start to come out because people plug in and that causes some to crash can I power up now on Race eight I’m going to walk over here get away from y’all you can only have two four guys up in the air at a time so I don’t want to go to a flying spot and have 40 people there I want to have like half a dozen you have to like find this Middle Ground of making it a social event but not too big of a social event so that you can actually get some flying time in who’s on Race eight I’m on Race eight because at that point once there gets to be too much people like you can’t go as far or you can’t you know because then you have video issues all right going up on eight why are we all on Race eight basically instead of swapping the whole motor you can just put the this piece chunk screw it in we’re [Music] done was that I just was doing some little [Music] I’m I’m going to go between the pillars around the thing turn left then weave it in and then up through the Gap and over the Dome then down into the Gap and then weave out and miss everything and it’s going to be [Music] awesome so s [Music] oh damn son two in a row so we’re trying to you know hit all these certain clipping points and then also be able to do it in a smooth fashion um but once he did it then you know I’m falling right behind him and then you know you got to take it to the next level and that is him chasing me or me chasing him getting that like double footage the third person style footage [Applause] W no it just doesn’t [Music] [Music] power cycle good as new mostly I’m going to take I’m going to take like the the B the B+ it ain’t the A+ but it’s the B I’ll take a B [Music] minus I was like well I can’t be smoother than skitso I can’t be more technical than steel so all I can do is like go bigger so I’m going to do that people think is impossible and make it possible and that’s kind of what I did [Music] [Music] w w wo wo w we were just power looping trying to chase each other cuz it’s always fun trying to follow quads especially with analog cuz you literally can’t see anything Kevin [Music] [Music] you know everybody started doing their own thing and moved away so it was really nice to come together again and see everybody vibing off each other and trying to one up each other and flying and everything it really did feel like like those trips used to be back in the day I told stingy that you know I was like man this feels like back in the day being able to go out and fly with your friends is like going to a soccer game or you know doing something that allows you to hang out with people that are like-minded and I really enjoy being with them and I hope that you know regulation doesn’t take away from that it’s possible that this could be one of the last times when this many people come together in one place and fly if remote ID goes through a lot of people are going to drop out [Music] [Music] oh [Music] I mean the the the trippiest thing for me when I started was to take off and circle myself and see myself [Music] fly it actually does provide this kind of spiritual experience I mean you literally are having an out of- body experience and I think one of the the first times you really bug out when you’re flying is the first time you are flying and you see yourself you’re like oh that’s me and not in my body it’s you see like a a GT GTA version of yourself with a remote controller I mean see myself standing there while I was clearly in this little machine for me in my head it was like it was literally an outer body experience the first time it it’s 100% out of- body experience and I say all the time like when I’m flying I’m like oh drone me did this because that’s what it is at that point when you’re flying and the goggles on you’re two separate beings your human you that’s controlling things and your drone you that’s flying [Music] around I think what we’re all looking for is that state of flow you you are essentially one with the craft you’re not fighting it you’re not you’re not trying to overthink what you’re doing and everything is just natural where there resonating with the [Music] environment to really make very smooth movements you have to kind of anticipate where your drone is going to be in the next 10 seconds and you have to um make the movement transition into that state so just have that state of flow where you never appear to hesitate and it always feels like you know where you’re going next just Everything feels like it’s going right you feel completely connected to the quad all the tricks are leading into each other and flowing between each other perfectly and you just get this amazing sense of of bliss and accomplishment [Music] but I get like this kind of release of endorphins by getting into the Flow State and being able to control a drone in a way that I just don’t even realize is happening I can describe it other than being in a state of flow and it’s an addictive state to be in [Music] there’s never there’s never a ceiling you’ve never figured out every trick figured out every flow mastered every possible line if you think you have you’re just not being creative enough you you can’t get this experience any other way it’s beyond the the capabilities of the human [Music] body everything thing is like making noise at you and then you put on your goggles and for 3 to 5 minutes it’s absolute silence and you’re just focus on that screen right in front of you when you get to the point of entering that flow State it’s ultimate happiness you’re not worried about anything else there’s nothing in the world there’s no stress there’s no anxiety there’s no depression there’s no hate there’s none of that it’s just you and the quad when when you’re in that you’re you’re no longer thinking about anything other than the movement that that’s happening everything else turns off except for the one or two things in your brain that you need to fly I’d also even say that it becomes effortless at that point once you get into this crazy Nirvana State when you hit that man it’s like there’s nothing nothing else like [Music] it we just go out of our bodies and suddenly you’re [Music] [Applause] [Music] Limitless oh oh [Music] before you go if you’re interested in watching the entire Flow State film from start to finish with no ads and in much better image quality than YouTube gives you not all 1080ps are made equal some 1080ps are higher bit rate and better image quality than others if you want all that there’s two options number one you can buy the film on Vimeo there’s a link in the video description below to where you can pick that up or if you’re one of those people who still collects and watches physical media I know you’re out there we sell it on Blu-ray and again there’s a link in the video description below as well on the other hand if you want to keep watching on YouTube all the videos are in a playlist including the outakes and directors cut stuff the stuff that didn’t make the final edit uh and I’ll put cards on screen and links in the video description to those see you there [Music] .

Déroulement de la vidéo:

0.04 for the most part people don&;t
0.04 understand drones so when they do
0.04 they&;re comfortable with it when they
0.04 don&;t they want to see it
0.04 [Music]
0.04 burn and then when you go out and see it
0.04 in real life it&;s like well that&;s
0.04 freaking cool as crap you remember that
0.04 scene in Star Wars with the speeder
0.04 bikes everybody watched that scene and
0.04 you wanted to be on the speeder bikes
0.04 flying fpv that&;s the closest analogy to
0.04 what that&;s like so you might have seen
0.04 Drone footage before but you probably
0.04 haven&;t seen Drone footage like this so
0.04 if you&;re prone to motion sickness you
0.04 might want to grab a barf bag cuz it&;s
0.04 about to get wild
0.04 [Music]
0.04 since you&;re little you dream of flying
0.04 and you you know all the superheroes
0.04 like you know um Superman and Iron Man
0.04 basically that&;s that&;s the feeling FV
0.04 gives you who hasn&;t looked up at the
0.04 sky and thought man I wish I could be
0.04 Superman and
0.04 just go 100 Mil an hour with the cinema
0.04 camera so you&;ve basically flying a
0.04 little
0.04 Lamborghini it is all manual when we fly
0.04 these things every movement that you see
0.04 is input or not input from the pilot
0.04 it&;s like Freedom you know it&;s like
0.04 total freedom separation of body and
0.04 mind apart from flying a wing suit FV is
0.04 as close as real flying as it can
0.04 get you&;ll get shaky your hands are
0.04 shaking your heart is pounding this is
0.04 an adrenaline rush get ready for like
0.04 the ride of your
0.04 [Music]
0.04 life whether it&;s diving down the side
0.04 of a mountain skimming along the top of
0.04 the water you know 100 miles an
0.04 [Music]
0.04 hour there&;s no other feeling like it
0.04 there&;s no other way to get that Rush
0.04 that you get when you&;re flying fpv
0.04 [Music]
0.04 so flying fpv you&;re always looking for
0.04 like this dope spot to fly if you&;ve
0.04 ever skated most people are like oh
0.04 they&;re looking at stair sets and
0.04 handrails rather than you know maybe an
0.04 architecture of a building where with
0.04 fpv we look at these things so
0.04 differently now because you can fly in
0.04 three-dimensional space with fpv
0.04 technology it&;s just up to your skills
0.04 how crazy and good the shot gets
0.04 [Music]
0.04 having that Headroom on the power lets
0.04 you do a lot of the crazy stuff that
0.04 we&;re able to pull off pulling out at a
0.04 gap at the very bottom of a building
0.04 dive to go underneath this
0.04 [Music]
0.04 tree the adrenaline is always there no
0.04 matter how long you&;ve been flying you
0.04 feel the power you feel the speed The
0.04 Sensation that you get or the adrenaline
0.04 rush comes from directly comes from
0.04 speed even now I get shaky hands I get
0.04 uh almost dizzy about it a lot of times
0.04 you don&;t notice in the goggles it&;s
0.04 only when you come back and you&;re like
0.04 oh my hands are shaking why are my hands
0.04 shaking cuz you just Dove you know 100
0.04 fet through a tiny little Gap with your
0.04 drone that you really
0.04 [Music]
0.04 like the first time I saw fpv I thought
0.04 to myself I&;m never playing another
0.04 video game again your environments are
0.04 mountains rivers lakes marshes beaches
0.04 whatever you want your environment to
0.04 [Music]
0.04 be it is the closest thing that you can
0.04 get to Flying a fighter jet without
0.04 actually flying a fighter
0.04 jet you don&;t strap into the jet you
0.04 strap the jet onto you when you put on
0.04 the goggles you are completely immersed
0.04 and you don&;t feel like you&;re sitting
0.04 there flying a drone you feel like
0.04 you&;re actually
0.04 flying the adrenaline that goes through
0.04 your veins is extremely similar to
0.04 actually flying a fighter
0.04 [Music]
0.04 jet this is something that you could
0.04 only do with these highly special
0.04 [Music]
0.04 quadcopters and you land and you take
0.04 the goggles off and there you are in the
0.04 park and you&;re like what I feels like
0.04 my life and a million dollars is on the
0.04 line
0.04 hi I&;m James Christensen and I&;m a
0.04 documentarian I&;m also an fpv drone
0.04 pilot since 2018 and I have been
0.04 watching many of the influencers and top
0.04 drone Pilots these are very skilled
0.04 Pilots around the world uh most of them
0.04 posting on YouTube or Instagram which
0.04 we&;ll see mostly Instagram handles for
0.04 all of the pilots represented in this
0.04 film I have come out from LA to within a
0.04 short drive of Atlanta Georgia Knoxville
0.04 to Florida New York and also interviewed
0.04 pilots from other countries as well 2020
0.04 is going to be a pivotal year for the
0.04 history of drones when I say drones I
0.04 mean quadcopters and it&;s not limited to
0.04 to drones or larger professional drones
0.04 camera drones fpv drones delivery drones
0.04 drones in general are going to have a
0.04 very pivotal year in what is decided
0.04 with the regulations coming from the FAA
0.04 we have the protest coming up at the end
0.04 of the month February 2020 in Washington
0.04 DC it&;s at the FAA building and these
0.04 Pilots will come out and they&;re going
0.04 to protest the fact that they need to be
0.04 able to save their Hobby and for many of
0.04 them it&;s a profession as well so come
0.04 on this journey with me into the amazing
0.04 fascinating Adrenaline Rush of fpv
0.04 culture
0.04 worldwide fpv firsters view first person
0.04 view is you are not looking at the
0.04 aircraft from the outside you are inside
0.04 the aircraft virtually looking
0.04 out back in 2008 I started putting
0.04 cameras on um just remote control
0.04 airplanes no fpv yet um and basically
0.04 just trying to do some HD footage of of
0.04 my surrounding neighborhood uh just out
0.04 of out of my backyard I could launch a
0.04 plane and fly in the most beautiful
0.04 scenery back in the day there were no
0.04 drones um it was only model aircraft um
0.04 you had to buy cameras from like um baby
0.04 uh baby monitors like hack the equipment
0.04 out of it and then just tape it onto um
0.04 not even purpose build airplanes just
0.04 airplanes that would buy in an old uh
0.04 Rusty model
0.04 shop and basically we used old ski
0.04 goggles and then we uh cut out the front
0.04 and taped in some old personal video
0.04 goggles and so we hacked up a receiver
0.04 and like taped that to our face uh we
0.04 bought Wi-Fi Range Extender antennas to
0.04 to get more range out of our equipment
0.04 so this was kind of the early days of
0.04 hacking together equipment that really
0.04 wasn&;t made for fpv
0.04 [Music]
0.04 we had to make them back in the days
0.04 because there was just no um
0.04 purpose-built fpv equipment so that&;s
0.04 what we designed and then started to
0.04 sell and then it turned into a
0.04 business I started flying RC helicopters
0.04 with the age of 12 or 13 so I&;m in this
0.04 RC hobby for a very long time for over
0.04 28 years all of us started with
0.04 airplanes and helicopters and then move
0.04 move to drones and that&;s where a lot of
0.04 experience comes from I actually started
0.04 out with RC planes fix wi planes before
0.04 I got into multi-rotors and mini quads
0.04 that was some of the first aircraft that
0.04 I built were fix s planes so really what
0.04 inspired me to get into fvv was uh Team
0.04 black sheet video which was trappy
0.04 flying uh and they were flying wings and
0.04 Diving down the sides of mountains with
0.04 them and that kind of really set it off
0.04 for me I&;ve always wanted to Sky Dive
0.04 and fly so this was just something where
0.04 I didn&;t have to put my body In Harm&;s
0.04 Way fpv actually started for me with
0.04 trappie he was actually a huge
0.04 inspiration with his TBS
0.04 [Music]
0.04 Discovery uh it wasn&;t until I one of
0.04 the forums that I learned like okay how
0.04 do you put one of these together like oh
0.04 shoot I got to pick up aering iron but I
0.04 didn&;t care I was like I want to figure
0.04 this out figure out MacGyver style like
0.04 you were just on internet forums for
0.04 hours on end looking for answers and so
0.04 people would just buy stuff and just
0.04 plug it in and cross your fingers that
0.04 the Magic Smoke wouldn&;t come out
0.04 because you just never knew in the
0.04 beginning it was really janky people
0.04 were using these we nunchucks and
0.04 pulling the the Gyros and accelerometers
0.04 out of that and putting them into these
0.04 multi-rotors in order to be the sensors
0.04 to get these things to fly so it was
0.04 very like hacked together and we slowly
0.04 started to get more things that were
0.04 built specifically for the purpose um of
0.04 flying fpv the the very first fpv drones
0.04 had
0.04 uh
0.04 scavenged um surveillance cameras in
0.04 them Bare Bones like basic literal
0.04 security
0.04 cameras most people are familiar with
0.04 drones that they see in Best Buy like
0.04 DJI Phantoms or mavic&;s I think a camera
0.04 drone is best thought of as a like a
0.04 tripod in the sky it&;s going to have
0.04 larger props it&;s going to have a gimbal
0.04 so the camera can tilt while the Drone
0.04 is sort of hovering in place a
0.04 freestyler racing drone its goal is is
0.04 to give the pilot the experience of
0.04 flight it&;s got a fixed angle and that
0.04 means that the camera on it is actually
0.04 up tilted a little bit so the pilot can
0.04 be looking ahead while the quad pitches
0.04 forward it was kind of a byproduct of
0.04 being super lightweight to just Mount or
0.04 strap a GoPro to your quad but it&;s also
0.04 something that was intentionally done to
0.04 um provide the flying experience to the
0.04 viewer and so every tilt every piece of
0.04 movement that you see see that&;s what
0.04 the Drone is doing and that&;s what makes
0.04 fpv so unique is that the flying is more
0.04 inherently the subject of the
0.04 [Music]
0.04 video for the most part people that fly
0.04 fpv are used to very crappy video
0.04 signals and just the Terri most terrible
0.04 image you could ever expect someone to
0.04 be able to fly an aircraft with
0.04 this signal is super weak it&;s super
0.04 scratchy they&;re static all the time so
0.04 many people think that what we see in
0.04 the goggles is like what a GoPro shows
0.04 you cuz that&;s what we show you guys
0.04 when we upload the stuff to YouTube but
0.04 now we got these new systems these new
0.04 digital systems which are high
0.04 [Music]
0.04 definition so 2015 Dron Nationals was I
0.04 think in my opinion and I I think I
0.04 speak for a lot of people here it was
0.04 probably one of the best fpv events ever
0.04 probably because a it was the first time
0.04 where people from like all around the
0.04 world came together and it was really
0.04 the first time you know people were
0.04 staring to put you know names to faces
0.04 because up until now our entire
0.04 relationship within the community just
0.04 existed on forums and
0.04 [Music]
0.04 messages so not long after the the Drone
0.04 Nationals Dubai comes out with the world
0.04 drone
0.04 pre of
0.04 [Music]
0.04 2016 and that was an absolute huge deal
0.04 a because first of all y&;all got to go
0.04 to Dubai and you know Dubai is Big Grand
0.04 and large and I remember showing up and
0.04 they showed like the racetrack lit up at
0.04 night so not only did it look crazy
0.04 beautiful but the freaking track like
0.04 articulated like it breathed and moved
0.04 [Music]
0.04 but the kicker a million dooll purse
0.04 never heard of before and I feel like
0.04 that just straight like legitimized
0.04 drone
0.04 [Music]
0.04 racing and then the the the kid that try
0.04 to to strangle with my arm is Luke
0.04 banister known as bny UK who won the
0.04 Dubai World drone Prix big race and as
0.04 you can see in the photo this is the Hat
0.04 Mr steel gave me uh to avoid the
0.04 Sunburst on my almost bald head
0.04 [Music]
0.04 and then the freestyle scene kind of
0.04 emerged with uh charoo to basically make
0.04 it um
0.04 [Music]
0.04 artistic I would watch you YouTube all
0.04 the time and I found sharpo uh flying
0.04 around these trees and these abandoned
0.04 spots and I thought that was it was just
0.04 mind-blowing the very first time I ever
0.04 saw that sharu was very very creative
0.04 he&;s actually was an animator at
0.04 DreamWorks and so I think a lot of that
0.04 carried over he just would come up with
0.04 some of the most wild ideas for videos a
0.04 lot of people who are in fpv think of
0.04 some of the early like sharoo videos um
0.04 the early rotor Riot episodes he&;s a
0.04 taxi driver from Mexico City that&;s
0.04 where we got him we picked him up
0.04 he&;s now a professional quad pilot you
0.04 know there&;s going to be a point where
0.04 people are going to be shooting down
0.04 drones cuz they&;re everywhere right so
0.04 that&;s kind of like a way of like
0.04 testing it seeing it you know seeing if
0.04 we can actually shoot down one of these
0.04 little drones that we generally fly the
0.04 odds are very slim and want to put bets
0.04 on I think it&;ll be a lucky shot anybody
0.04 lucky shot going to be really hard but I
0.04 kind of want it to happen if you want to
0.04 know about nearly anything you just go
0.04 search it on YouTube at least that&;s
0.04 what I do and I think a lot a lot of
0.04 people maybe they discover the hobby by
0.04 watching fpv pilots on YouTube Someone
0.04 shares a clip with them I would say like
0.04 2014 is really when it started and then
0.04 it&;s kind of exponentially grown since
0.04 then um but yeah putting security
0.04 systems and remotely flying aircraft via
0.04 goggles is just something that&;s been
0.04 around for a while we&;ve just refined it
0.04 a lot in the last six years
0.04 being able to fly is such an amazing
0.04 experience and my goal is to help
0.04 everybody who wants that amazing
0.04 Transcendent experience be able to get
0.04 through the obstacle course and be able
0.04 to enjoy the Hobby People send me things
0.04 occasionally this is a sign that a local
0.04 guy made for me with my slogan on it
0.04 that&;s kind of cool I&;m J Bardwell and
0.04 you&;re going to learn something
0.04 today so my brand is fpv know-it-all
0.04 it&;s a little bit tongue and cheek at
0.04 least that&;s the intent uh I don&;t
0.04 literally know everything barwell
0.04 answers everybody that guy never stops
0.04 like when we&;re shooting together he&;s
0.04 just in the back seat on the way to the
0.04 spot just nonstop on the phone answering
0.04 every question that the patience of that
0.04 man a lot of my content is for beginners
0.04 because much of my content is driven by
0.04 the questions that I get I let my email
0.04 inbox every morning write my editorial
0.04 calendar for me if I start getting a
0.04 question five six seven times i&; just
0.04 like I got to make a video about it the
0.04 antennas that come with the goggles have
0.04 this shoulder here to prevent you from
0.04 twisting off the internal SMA connector
0.04 it kind of cinches it down so I have a
0.04 degree in computer science from Georgia
0.04 Tech so I&;ve got this background in
0.04 computers and familiarity with computers
0.04 and maybe even a little bit of
0.04 programming when I was a kid my dad was
0.04 into Electronics he taught me to solder
0.04 so I&;ve got this background with
0.04 Electronics another piece of my
0.04 background that I think really makes a
0.04 difference is that I spent about 10
0.04 years as an instructor and a course
0.04 Weare designer doing classroom
0.04 instruction not like academic but like
0.04 corporate I spent a lot of time figuring
0.04 out how to break complex topics down
0.04 into an understandable way and then
0.04 communicate them to people uh in a way
0.04 that the people could could get I think
0.04 that&;s what I&;m most proud of is the
0.04 people out there who say I wouldn&;t be
0.04 in the air if it weren&;t for bardwell&;s
0.04 video
0.04 [Music]
0.04 I got into fbv fairly quickly mainly
0.04 just because of my background of
0.04 electronics engineering and being around
0.04 my father that&;s a DIY self-employed
0.04 electronics engineer at home this
0.04 Workshop behind me is where I put
0.04 together all the drones and whatever
0.04 projects I&;m working
0.04 on hey guys so this is my drone wall
0.04 this is where I keep all of my older
0.04 drones that I don&;t really fly anymore
0.04 it&;s just kind of a decorative way to
0.04 store these things you know I built this
0.04 thing for a race in Dubai and then ended
0.04 up like kind of making it into some long
0.04 range drone where I don&;t necessarily
0.04 always fly far away but this thing will
0.04 fly for like 12 minutes opposed to my
0.04 normal 3 to 5 so this is like my very
0.04 first drone ever this is a mini quad
0.04 made by a company called blackout this
0.04 particular quad got run over by a trophy
0.04 truck on my very first commercial gig
0.04 ever and this thing fail safed which
0.04 means it lost RC connection fell out of
0.04 the sky onto the racetrack and got run
0.04 over so so this drone right here is like
0.04 the combination of six years of R&D and
0.04 testing and trial and error every time I
0.04 go out this is exactly every video I&;ve
0.04 ever made has been flown with something
0.04 either similar to this or this exact
0.04 unit
0.04 itself so like anything skateboarding
0.04 working on cars you got to have the
0.04 right tool for the right job and so this
0.04 is a typical 2mm driver that we would
0.04 use to work on drones in the last few
0.04 years technology has become a little bit
0.04 more accessible and obviously these
0.04 drones are becoming easier and easier to
0.04 build uh so that&;s drawing in more and
0.04 more people the fpv community mainly
0.04 takes place on the internet we&;re spread
0.04 across the globe and most interactions
0.04 with each other are all done on Facebook
0.04 groups fpv is basically this one giant
0.04 tribe from all around the world when I
0.04 go live on any social media platform
0.04 there are people from all over the world
0.04 that will comment in whether or not
0.04 they&;re from Asia Europe South America
0.04 it doesn&;t matter so there&;s a lot of
0.04 very interesting interactions that you
0.04 have when you have like this broad
0.04 worldwide social media reach for a very
0.04 niche
0.04 market but also because in a lot of
0.04 places there just aren&;t any other fpv
0.04 Pilots you could be like the only one in
0.04 your small town and you just kind of got
0.04 to do it yourself social media has
0.04 enabled us to find each other and
0.04 congregate in these bigger groups like I
0.04 have thousands of people that I interact
0.04 with online on social media so when you
0.04 get a chance to go to an event and meet
0.04 other pilots in person I think it&;s
0.04 really special it&;s really important it
0.04 gets the keyboard out of the way and
0.04 gets you face to
0.04 [Music]
0.04 face the fbv community in general is
0.04 just so helpful you know it&;s a place
0.04 where everyone just contributes ideas
0.04 and goes to find inspiration I learned
0.04 myself from the community you know I go
0.04 back and learn and try to find find new
0.04 things that I hadn&;t known about see
0.04 whatever people are working on it&;s this
0.04 place where everyone learns and I think
0.04 that that&;s just so amazing to
0.04 have we created the TBS Lounge which is
0.04 like a lounge for fbv Pilots to hang out
0.04 and just talk about whatever they want
0.04 except
0.04 politics and uh it has to be fpv related
0.04 so it has come be kind of the center of
0.04 the fpv community and everybody who who
0.04 does anything that they want to boast
0.04 about or share or help other
0.04 people at least one fun F meme a day in
0.04 the in the TVs Lounge but it&;s always
0.04 related to something fpv right
0.04 so we kind of joke that when you become
0.04 a pilot the first thing you do is make a
0.04 logo pick a pilot
0.04 name then you build your drone and Learn
0.04 to Fly what is it with pilots in their
0.04 brands I don&;t know the answer to this
0.04 question as soon as they get into the
0.04 hobby they want to hire somebody to make
0.04 them a logo but I cannot explain it to
0.04 you I get it probably has something to
0.04 do with social media
0.04 culture that&;s how you rep your brain
0.04 that&;s how you like give your buddies a
0.04 sticker you know like the sticker just
0.04 indicates like I knew this guy or you
0.04 met this person in person if he becomes
0.04 your identity so why would you not you
0.04 know want to buy the URL get some
0.04 stickers made of your name let everybody
0.04 know what your pilot name is it&;s a way
0.04 to reinvent yourself everybody has
0.04 sticker everybody has stickers please
0.04 stop sending me stickers no I&;m just
0.04 kidding
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 Surfers are really protective of their
0.04 spots cuz like there&;s only so many
0.04 waves right if there&;s a really good
0.04 spot and somebody else gets your wave
0.04 you&;re not going to get it and it feels
0.04 like fpv Pilots are a little bit like
0.04 that too um or they could piss off the
0.04 security guards or get the cops called
0.04 on you maybe you&;re not quite supposed
0.04 to be there but if you&;re cool about it
0.04 then you won&;t get in any trouble we&;ve
0.04 had police ride up on us and not know
0.04 what we&;re doing alone in a parking lot
0.04 and making all this noise well these
0.04 kind police officers want to go for a
0.04 quick
0.04 [Music]
0.04 ride but you put the goggles on them you
0.04 take them for a ride they think it&;s one
0.04 of the coolest things they&;ve ever seen
0.04 and we get away with getting to stay at
0.04 a lot of spots that way the only other
0.04 thing that like how I recognize fpv
0.04 drone Pilots is massive backpacks that
0.04 airports so like you can pick out a a
0.04 drone pilot from a th000 people easily
0.04 because they have a backpack full of
0.04 stuff and they always get check at
0.04 security the king of carrying extras is
0.04 definitely Corey like today his bag was
0.04 like 50 lb and mine was maybe
0.04 [Music]
0.04 20 you never fly your last pack so the
0.04 minute you say this is my last pack then
0.04 I&;m going home you&;re going to lose your
0.04 quad it&;s going to explode some people
0.04 keep a Charged pack and that is their
0.04 quote unquote last pack and they just
0.04 leave it I&;m not making this up they
0.04 superstitiously just leave their last
0.04 pack in their backpack but the quad Gods
0.04 know that&;s not really your last pack
0.04 they you can&;t fool them that
0.04 simply a lot of people who used Toc
0.04 skateboard and now they&;re like they&;re
0.04 middle-aged and they&;re tired of
0.04 breaking their bones end up as fpv
0.04 Pilots because it&;s like the same kind
0.04 of thrill and challenge to do a new
0.04 trick so with skateboarding you
0.04 typically show up to a spot and then you
0.04 kind of explore it and find out what you
0.04 can use what you can&;t use maybe a
0.04 handrail skate stair sets or Ledges with
0.04 fpv you really do the same thing so you
0.04 show up and you&;re like wow there&;s a
0.04 gap there there&;s this hole here there
0.04 may be some you know some kind of weird
0.04 thing that can slide
0.04 [Music]
0.04 on you know you&;re looking for cool
0.04 spots but instead of handrails you&;re
0.04 looking for dive
0.04 [Music]
0.04 gaps if you have a flat parking lot
0.04 there&;s probably nothing interesting to
0.04 skate there once you have elevation
0.04 changes and you have stairs there&;s
0.04 something cool to skate there same thing
0.04 applies with
0.04 [Music]
0.04 fpv it really does feel like
0.04 skateboarding in the air my friends that
0.04 don&;t fly ask me what it&;s like I say
0.04 it&;s like skateboarding in the
0.04 [Music]
0.04 air and I also have a a large background
0.04 or a long history of skateboarding which
0.04 I think also carried
0.04 over and it makes sense that a lot of
0.04 Pilots come from these worlds that was
0.04 that was like the The New Normal was to
0.04 break things with flying fpv I can chase
0.04 that same itch I can try to push myself
0.04 without risking more titanium rods in my
0.04 [Music]
0.04 body you&;re like okay here we go oh no I
0.04 crashed oh no I screwed it up and pack
0.04 after pack after pack after pack after
0.04 pack until sometimes you break through I
0.04 thrash my drones I don&;t give a
0.04 what my drones look like I don&;t care as
0.04 long as they fly I&;m throwing it through
0.04 that Gap you know it&;s going to slam
0.04 into a wall and still take off the props
0.04 are bent whatever just keep
0.04 flying if I were still skating I would
0.04 be injured all the time um so yeah you
0.04 can either break your legs or your
0.04 wrists or you can just break your
0.04 pocketbook and fly up PV somewhere out
0.04 there there&;s somebody who&;s like that&;s
0.04 the whole point brao is that it&;s
0.04 there&;s something on the line but you
0.04 reach a point in your life where you&;re
0.04 tired of going to the hospital with
0.04 broken bones and sprained and and you&;re
0.04 just like I&;m done with
0.04 that said you get everything together
0.04 for a nice day out with your friends
0.04 plug in you get your
0.04 tones put your goggles on no video This
0.04 is why fpv is like such a pain in that
0.04 is sometimes or then you left something
0.04 at home and then you left something at
0.04 home that&;s the main one or you didn&;t
0.04 charge a GoPro or you didn&;t charge a go
0.04 or you didn&;t charge your radio or you
0.04 didn&;t charge your radio so what&;s the
0.04 solution tell us just bring four or five
0.04 quads you never have to worry about four
0.04 or five quads three or four GoPros I
0.04 don&;t go as hard as Cory does so I don&;t
0.04 do as much damage to my equipment as
0.04 Cory does how about that I remember my
0.04 first time breaking something I was like
0.04 oh my God I broke a prop and people were
0.04 like Ah that&;s nothing if you spend your
0.04 whole time being terrified that you&;re
0.04 going to crash then you&;ll never get
0.04 better that&;s really the only way that
0.04 you&;re going to really learn and Excel
0.04 as a pilot like you just got to be
0.04 willing to break something and let&;s
0.04 face it that&;s kind of like half the fun
0.04 right you egg each other on you&;re like
0.04 hey I bet you can&;t hit
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 that there&;s a branch up there trees
0.04 grab you trees will pull you right out
0.04 of the air trees will gobble you up and
0.04 not let you fall to the ground
0.04 and heaven forbid you get into a palm
0.04 tree cuz that&;s like the end all that&;s
0.04 it you get in top of a palm tree and
0.04 you&;re
0.04 [Music]
0.04 done first pack with my freestyle quad
0.04 I&;m a racer check this out where
0.04 skateboarding sometimes takes you know
0.04 100 tries and you can fall down hurt
0.04 yourself really bad and that&;s going to
0.04 affect your next line FV is just a drone
0.04 get a new drone fix the motor whatever
0.04 it is and you continue to hit that crazy
0.04 Gap or do that crazy line until you do
0.04 [Music]
0.04 it the movement can just seem really
0.04 random but it&;s actually very practiced
0.04 we actually have a whole set of defined
0.04 tricks because start with the split s
0.04 everybody&;s first trick is a split
0.04 [Music]
0.04 s you know some of the most common ones
0.04 would be like a power Loop where you go
0.04 under something and power and loop
0.04 around and come back under
0.04 [Music]
0.04 it every trick in fpv really boils down
0.04 to a combination of three basic moves
0.04 the
0.04 roll the pitch which is a flip or
0.04 yah and the first time you go to a place
0.04 there&;s like this magic to it because
0.04 you don&;t know where all the lines are
0.04 you don&;t know everywhere that you can
0.04 flow so it&;s a little bit exploratory
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 it might be your second pack or it might
0.04 be your 20th pack you just don&;t know
0.04 but there&;s always that one pack that
0.04 you know you&;re going to get the best
0.04 clips from there&;s that one
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 so like and I feel like that fpv is
0.04 definitely a transition from BMX or any
0.04 type of skateboarding BMX snowboarding
0.04 cuz that thing of flow like just the
0.04 flow of cruising down a mountain or
0.04 hitting that grind that you want it is
0.04 pretty much identical to hitting the gap
0.04 or hitting this Bando that you wanted to
0.04 fly I mean you just don&;t have to get
0.04 hurt it&;s
0.04 beautiful
0.04 carbon carbon so that we can basically
0.04 just like break
0.04 [Music]
0.04 the I may never make it into Tony Hawks
0.04 Pro Skater but it did make it into a
0.04 drone simulator and I I&;ll count that as
0.04 a
0.04 win good morning we are now in Orlando
0.04 Florida where we are going to visit
0.04 today with rotor riot uh I just got off
0.04 the phone with Drew we&;re going to go
0.04 meet up at the warehouse and we&;re going
0.04 to find a bando which is um an abandoned
0.04 lot or abandoned structure of some
0.04 [Music]
0.04 kind we&;re in Orlando Florida at the
0.04 rotorat headquarters where we&;ve got our
0.04 offices our studio and our
0.04 warehouse rotorat was founded by Chad
0.04 kapper it&;s like his second RC YouTube
0.04 Venture after flight
0.04 test it was founded with the idea of
0.04 being at the center of fpv culture and
0.04 it really evolved to be at the center of
0.04 fpv freestyle culture specifically the
0.04 idea was get top pilots and
0.04 personalities put them together on a
0.04 show I&;m Joshua Bardwell I&;m Alex
0.04 vanover I&;m Shan Morrison and I&;m L and
0.04 have them challenge each other go on
0.04 adventures and take the audience along
0.04 with them
0.04 the episodes we make are supposed to be
0.04 educational teach you a little bit about
0.04 how to do the this whole fpv thing and
0.04 more importantly it&;s supposed to be
0.04 inspirational we&;re really lucky to have
0.04 a team that in their own way wants to
0.04 inspire people to fly and help them get
0.04 into this
0.04 hobby be sure to like subscribe we&;ll
0.04 catch you on the next
0.04 one so this would be like our go-to
0.04 build it&;s the HD1 and uh it&;s based on
0.04 the original cl1 frame we modified it to
0.04 accommodate the DJI system just by
0.04 making a little bit longer it&;s probably
0.04 our cheapest frame but it&;s still very
0.04 durable with like 5 mm arms it can take
0.04 a pretty a pretty good beating this is
0.04 something new we&;re doing it&;s the digi
0.04 whoop so it&;s kind of reminiscent of the
0.04 tiny whoops so it&;s a little bit bigger
0.04 it&;s I think it&;s a 2in prop rather than
0.04 think true tiny whoops are like 1in
0.04 props but it&;s actually digital right so
0.04 it&;s using the cadx Vista so it&;s
0.04 compatible with the DJI system so to be
0.04 able to fly something this small where
0.04 you could really fly it I mean this is
0.04 more than enough space you could fly
0.04 this around your house and have digital
0.04 HD it&;s pretty fun what is aando aando
0.04 is an abandoned building
0.04 [Music]
0.04 abandoned buildings that that&;s another
0.04 thing where F really became popular
0.04 because people were exploring uh
0.04 abandoned buildings and factories flying
0.04 into windows exploring old you know
0.04 facilities
0.04 [Music]
0.04 bandal are golden just because of the
0.04 layout there&;s so many the way it looks
0.04 on film the way it feels to fly the
0.04 structures of it there&;s holes
0.04 everywhere there cool things number one
0.04 you have structures number two you
0.04 typically don&;t have Windows or glass in
0.04 the windows so all of those openings are
0.04 openings that you can fly through
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 elevator shafts Windows there&;s so many
0.04 different variations of what you can do
0.04 in a
0.04 bando so today we are doing a rotor Riot
0.04 shoot kind of on location um there&;s
0.04 some local Pilots that I saw flying this
0.04 really cool looking Bando and I reached
0.04 out to them um actually one of them is
0.04 my buddy Edwin K A Rod yo and when I
0.04 started flying I lived in Detroit and I
0.04 lived there for the first you know 3
0.04 years of me flying and we have Bandos
0.04 everywhere you there&;s little areas in
0.04 Detroit where you got five worldclass
0.04 spots all within 10 minutes of each
0.04 other I mean some of them you could
0.04 literally fly the other Spot while
0.04 you&;re standing at one spot Bandos are
0.04 usually always going to be concrete
0.04 metal Rusty gritty when you crash it&;s
0.04 pretty brutal I do love flying tree
0.04 spots too it&;s a great place to train
0.04 but when you get to a
0.04 bando that&;s like that&;s the best fpv
0.04 experience I think this is amazing wow
0.04 amazing are you kidding me
0.04 [Music]
0.04 dog just flying in in open space is
0.04 boring so you&;re looking for obstacles
0.04 and aando is like it&;s a holy grail of
0.04 obstacles because you can crash into
0.04 anything nobody&;s going to complain
0.04 there&;s not going to be any people there
0.04 so it&;s perfectly safe it&;s just the
0.04 ultimate playground uh for for fpv
0.04 Pilots freestyle is about pushing the
0.04 limits of the Drone being fast and agile
0.04 but also creating a beautiful shot the
0.04 subject of that shot is the movement of
0.04 the Drone itself it&;s highlighting the
0.04 the Drone capability and the pting skill
0.04 in an Artful
0.04 way well now I&;m rolling out of it
0.04 sideways so you got to think on your
0.04 feet and turn that to the next thing and
0.04 just keep the line
0.04 [Music]
0.04 going you got holes in walls that are
0.04 blown out that you can fly through
0.04 you&;ve got uh shafts you can dive down
0.04 all sorts of ways that you can push
0.04 yourself and what the Drone is doing and
0.04 with a really high risk factor because
0.04 this is all concrete this is metal when
0.04 you crash it&;s not like you&;re crashing
0.04 in the branches of a tree it&;s a nice
0.04 little cushion for you to go in you&;re
0.04 probably going to break
0.04 something yeah I&;ll leave yeah band&;s a
0.04 great dnamic spot for fpv because you
0.04 get all of these different diverse types
0.04 of elements I mean you can fly inside
0.04 the actual buildings themselves where
0.04 you&;re just trying to not hit anything
0.04 or you can fly the outsides of the
0.04 buildings and kind of dive along the
0.04 side or do these wall rides along the
0.04 side inside the building itself I saw
0.04 these two this pair of cylinders and so
0.04 I was trying to do a big Power loop
0.04 around those and I finally ended up
0.04 getting it which is
0.04 [Music]
0.04 awesome we&;re out there and we&;re
0.04 watching each other fly and all we want
0.04 to do is see the other people improve
0.04 and push the other people to the best of
0.04 their abilities and there&;s nothing more
0.04 fun than that we really push each other
0.04 when we watch each other fly especially
0.04 in person you see them pull off
0.04 something like okay I got to do no I got
0.04 to one up that I&;ve got to take that
0.04 trick and make it even better
0.04 sometimes you will smack right into a
0.04 metal beam but the these drones are
0.04 pretty tough and a lot of the times
0.04 you&;ll be able to bend the props back
0.04 and fly again and if you&;re really good
0.04 sometimes you&;ll be able to recover and
0.04 fly away from the
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 crash for the past 5 years I&;ve been as
0.04 engaged as I can be to help the fa
0.04 develop reasonable and appropriate
0.04 policy uh I was on the registration task
0.04 force in 2015 then two other Aviation
0.04 rulemaking committees for flight over
0.04 people as well as remote ification and
0.04 I&;ve been on the Drone advisory
0.04 committee for the past several years as
0.04 long as it&;s existed The Arc provided an
0.04 80-page report to the FAA which set out
0.04 different ways to accomplish remote ID
0.04 but didn&;t recommend any single way to
0.04 do it and so you know what you had is is
0.04 these stakeholders agreeing that look at
0.04 the end of the day this remote ID
0.04 requirement has to be reasonable has to
0.04 be low cost low burden has to respect
0.04 privacy and then you have the FAA two
0.04 years later actually not listening to
0.04 that part of the advice I think what the
0.04 FAA came out with is a proposal that is
0.04 overly burdensome and and overreaching
0.04 they want every aircraft over 250 g 0.55
0.04 lb in the National airspace of the
0.04 United States to continuously report its
0.04 location and other information about
0.04 itself back to a central database it
0.04 it&;s an all of the above approach in
0.04 which you have to provide remote ID
0.04 information in more than one way um and
0.04 in ways that are extremely costly it
0.04 would be very easy and very um low
0.04 impact to come up with a solution that&;s
0.04 based on the RF we already use but
0.04 instead they&;re coming up with these
0.04 very odd ideas about essentially
0.04 building an iPhone into your
0.04 drone this hobby is really expensive we
0.04 put a lot of time money and energy into
0.04 it so I can&;t imagine paying a cell
0.04 phone subscription for each of my
0.04 [Music]
0.04 drones so as far as a small business um
0.04 a modular remote ID unit would be
0.04 absolutely critical because we don&;t you
0.04 know the fpv market is kind of small and
0.04 and when you innovate you&;re not going
0.04 to sell a whole lot of units right right
0.04 off a bat so something modular that you
0.04 can put into a custom build you know
0.04 very simply is it&;s going to be critical
0.04 as far as allowing Innovation to happen
0.04 so people building their own drones can
0.04 add the remote ID component to it and
0.04 comply with the rule uh otherwise you&;re
0.04 you&;re going to have a remote Ida
0.04 solution ultimately that fails and
0.04 doesn&;t satisfy the government&;s needs
0.04 individual hobbyists innovators stem
0.04 programs small companies all are just
0.04 going to not be able to exist
0.04 if this is not possible to build your
0.04 custom drone or to innovate and maybe
0.04 Tinker a bit and change something here
0.04 and there you would basically take away
0.04 those shots and the possibility of doing
0.04 things in the future that we maybe even
0.04 cannot think of today at DJI we don&;t
0.04 just advocate for what&;s good for us we
0.04 really are advocating for what&;s good
0.04 for the entire drone community so one of
0.04 the things we did is we proactively
0.04 developed a remote ID solution called
0.04 drone to phone that shows the FAA and
0.04 other regulators that a broadcast
0.04 solution works it works in an urban
0.04 environment and it would be free because
0.04 it would involve software changes to
0.04 many drones and a phone app that people
0.04 could download and use for free and you
0.04 would not need any of that Network
0.04 infrastructure the service providers
0.04 that are expected to charge monthly fees
0.04 the network connectivity which comes
0.04 with its own costs and
0.04 complexities products that are sold will
0.04 have to comply and then at some point
0.04 products that you have that can&;t do
0.04 remote ID would have to stop being used
0.04 the worst thing is I&;ve got 15 to 20
0.04 drones that are going to be pretty much
0.04 worthless if that doesn&;t get um changed
0.04 and um and and a lot of people in are in
0.04 the same boat I&;m in these proposed
0.04 regulations are trying to blanket kill
0.04 an entire industry when in reality what
0.04 we&;re doing is just for fun we&;re not
0.04 trying to spy on people or deliver
0.04 packages we just want we want the ground
0.04 we want like 20 ft that&;s about it you
0.04 know most freestyle racing drones we&;re
0.04 not going super high in the air if we
0.04 had to go to fly in just little areas
0.04 and just little Parks I mean it would
0.04 just take away all the creativity and
0.04 just uh what makes fpv what it actually
0.04 is like the real core of it who wants to
0.04 be stuck at the same designated park
0.04 with probably zero features along with
0.04 the 50,000 other people that are all
0.04 trying to do the same thing it&;s kind of
0.04 sad because we think what we&;re doing is
0.04 pretty safe it&;s pretty awesome it&;s a
0.04 really interesting and multifaceted
0.04 hobby that kind of gets pushed into into
0.04 an illegal
0.04 space where fpv fits into the current
0.04 rule that&;s proposed and the industry
0.04 that&;s trying to be created by companies
0.04 like Amazon and Google is that in my
0.04 opinion it really doesn&;t and that&;s
0.04 pretty much exactly what the rule tells
0.04 us there is no place for you here you
0.04 will not fly it&;s just shooting
0.04 ourselves in the foot other countries
0.04 are going to take off and run with this
0.04 technology and American innovation is
0.04 going to die uh the entire drone
0.04 industry grew out of hobbyists there has
0.04 to be a way to to balance both sides
0.04 where you can keep things safe but still
0.04 have the freedom to to fly anywhere
0.04 definitely worth saving it&;s worth
0.04 protecting and defending at this point
0.04 in 2020 there was just kind of a period
0.04 of being in the dark you know the FAA is
0.04 not usually receiving more than say
0.04 5,000 comments in a comment period they
0.04 received 53,000 comments from the
0.04 community not only to mention that an
0.04 actual protest happened at the FAA
0.04 building and nothing like this had ever
0.04 happened before but key individuals like
0.04 Brennan Schulman and say David mesina
0.04 from the fpv freedom Coalition they
0.04 really helped effectively advocate for
0.04 the fpv Drone Community as well as
0.04 really just any recreational drone flyer
0.04 me speaking back into 2020 at this point
0.04 the pilots and the community really
0.04 thought at large there was there was no
0.04 way this was going to change are we
0.04 going to lose our hobby as we know
0.04 [Music]
0.04 it this is something I believe is going
0.04 to be very significant no matter what
0.04 the outcome is of the uh nprm this
0.04 notice proposed rulemaking uh I&;ve got
0.04 to capture it we&;ve got to capture what
0.04 happens here in 2020 I bought a plane
0.04 ticket I&;m packing up my camera and my
0.04 gear and I&;m going to fly to Washington
0.04 DC me meet up with some of these
0.04 influencers that I&;ve met with and
0.04 capture this day of protest because this
0.04 is history in the making but in the back
0.04 of my mind I&;m thinking how is this
0.04 going to make an impact if people don&;t
0.04 really know what fpv drones are in this
0.04 amazing
0.04 Community my expectations for today um I
0.04 think it&;s mostly important that there
0.04 just is a presence here I think that the
0.04 actual communication with the FAA is
0.04 going to happen in more sort of private
0.04 meetings and committees I mean I think
0.04 one of the biggest problems is that they
0.04 don&;t really even know we exist um I
0.04 know that the organizers have a bunch of
0.04 stuff planned there&;s going to be
0.04 picketing I&;m mostly just looking
0.04 forward to uh seeing who comes and uh
0.04 showing the people in our community that
0.04 we are going to be out here fighting for
0.04 him is is roay going to riot here no we
0.04 are not not this is not a place is a
0.04 place to peacefully protest and to have
0.04 our voices
0.04 heard why are you still in bed okay
0.04 let&;s
0.04 keep let&;s
0.04 go I&;m a little nervous that it&;s not
0.04 going to be a huge
0.04 turnout um cuz we&;re so spread out and
0.04 it&;s it&;s it feels like we have such a
0.04 large community but it&;s just like it&;s
0.04 like this thin membrane spread across
0.04 the world if it was ever going to matter
0.04 if it was ever going to be worth taking
0.04 time off work and getting on a plane and
0.04 doing something expensive and obtrusive
0.04 and inconvenience it&;s kind of kind of
0.04 now if you actually care about this
0.04 stuff there&;s a lot of power in coming
0.04 together
0.04 physically especially for a community
0.04 that is so spread out and does most of
0.04 its communication and interaction
0.04 electronically regardless of how you do
0.04 it why you do it what you&;re doing it
0.04 for we all love this weird Hobby and
0.04 it&;s under threat and we got to do
0.04 something about
0.04 it the FAA released its notice of
0.04 proposed rulemaking that&;s called
0.04 nprm um just after Christmas in
0.04 2019 um which then started a 60-day
0.04 comment period
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 the protest was held in February on the
0.04 last day to submit comments kind of as a
0.04 way to raise awareness with all the live
0.04 streams and everything that happened all
0.04 the pictures posted to Instagram and
0.04 social
0.04 media uh Enoch fpv had taken the
0.04 initiative to plan day of protest people
0.04 from all over the country come in here
0.04 to save their access to hobby flight and
0.04 together this community has now really
0.04 created a bunch of momentum and this
0.04 momentum is going to move forward in a
0.04 way that I don&;t think the FBA was
0.04 expecting was just a really profound
0.04 statement that I don&;t think a lot of
0.04 people in the FAA had truly grasped
0.04 until we showed up on their door we do
0.04 need things like remote ID and
0.04 registration but we need to do it in a
0.04 way that is reasonable and fair to the
0.04 community and to the technology it&;s
0.04 very understandable why this community
0.04 would come out and protest on a cold day
0.04 with picket signs in front of the FAA uh
0.04 because I I I think they read a proposal
0.04 that doesn&;t take into account their
0.04 concerns uh and is not realistic for the
0.04 kinds of Technology they
0.04 use it was a great turnout I mean it was
0.04 a far bigger turnout than I had imagined
0.04 it was a really cold day I I marched um
0.04 I held signs and I chanted mostly I
0.04 think what I did was I got to connect
0.04 with other people who were there we did
0.04 our chance we marched and we did
0.04 actually like get people coming up to us
0.04 on the street asking what this is about
0.04 we actually got uh news articles written
0.04 about the movement it&;s one piece of
0.04 fighting for this Hobby and we&;ll go
0.04 back to Washington as many times
0.04 as it takes to make sure that the world
0.04 actually knows that first off we exist
0.04 and that what we do is worth
0.04 [Music]
0.04 saving 1
0.04 2 we had about 250 people out there all
0.04 um taking time out of their day and ages
0.04 ranging out there from 10 years old to
0.04 80 years old we had kids there that were
0.04 brought by their moms there was a whole
0.04 group of fpv moms with their 13-year-old
0.04 kids that were into this hobby because
0.04 it&;s the youth who were also a part of
0.04 this let&;s keep this St
0.04 going so I&;ve been into FV for about
0.04 four years and it&;s stuck with me more
0.04 than anything else I&;ve done before um
0.04 and it&;s allowed me to learn just so
0.04 much more than I&;ve I would have ever
0.04 expected when I started
0.04 when I heard the fa was trying to take
0.04 away drones I went to my first protest
0.04 ever we went down there people assembled
0.04 people are very passionate about fbv and
0.04 it was so awesome to see everybody it&;s
0.04 important for influencers to show up to
0.04 not only show that they care but also to
0.04 meet the people that they&;ve
0.04 influenced and for me personally I met a
0.04 dude that he he&;s from Alaska and he
0.04 drove here based on a video that I made
0.04 a week
0.04 ago it was cool to be able to go up
0.04 there and show my support and hang out
0.04 with people that are also supportive of
0.04 you know stopping extra drone regulation
0.04 that is
0.04 unnecessary I see the need for
0.04 regulation to make sure people have stay
0.04 safe but overregulation is going to
0.04 stifle any amount of innovation we can
0.04 stand and do everything that we need to
0.04 do as a United
0.04 [Music]
0.04 body at minimum give us a way to throw a
0.04 module on our drone so that we can
0.04 comply it may not end today this may
0.04 just be the beginning there&;s going to
0.04 be a lot of steps after this it&;s not
0.04 we&;re not going to win just from having
0.04 a protest in the park but the protest in
0.04 the park is giving us all more power
0.04 we&;re going to protect our access to the
0.04 sky and we&;re going to do it together as
0.04 one community
0.04 [Music]
0.04 basically when I got started in fpv I
0.04 just had really got to flying with the
0.04 goggles on and um approximately a month
0.04 after that my daughter passed away and
0.04 so in in the midst of all that Agony and
0.04 um pain I was going through basically I
0.04 could go to the park after after work
0.04 and um fly my drones and I get away from
0.04 all that I was feeling you know and was
0.04 bothering me um inside for three minutes
0.04 at a time I got to get up in the air and
0.04 fly and um on occasion you know I
0.04 actually even felt closer to my daughter
0.04 but that that laid the um foundation for
0.04 me in fpv and why I feel like I should
0.04 give back so much
0.04 youry come this way my local community
0.04 needed somebody like me to help out and
0.04 I stepped up and now we have great races
0.04 and and it&;s still a part of my life two
0.04 and a half years later
0.04 nice Pilots are you ready let me see
0.04 your thumbs one two three Pilots are
0.04 ready Pilots arm your quads on the tone
0.04 less than
0.04 [Music]
0.04 five so one of the things that makes
0.04 multi-p so instrumental in the hobby is
0.04 that it is near you there&;s so many
0.04 chapters around the world uh both local
0.04 chapters and then those local chapters
0.04 will Branch into a regional chapter so
0.04 for instance we&;re filming here in South
0.04 Carolina and not 20 minutes away there&;s
0.04 a multi-p chapter here in Greenville
0.04 that&;s very active races regularly and
0.04 so it&;s very important that if someone&;s
0.04 looking to pick up fpv here in
0.04 Greenville for example they can go out
0.04 there and see what fpv actually is
0.04 [Music]
0.04 I am not a racer I cannot compete on
0.04 that level uh the I&;ve
0.04 tried it it&;s just different skill sets
0.04 and a different discipline cuz racing
0.04 the level is so high today you need to
0.04 do that and that only if you want to be
0.04 at the top
0.04 [Music]
0.04 that time by laughing a
0.04 24375 which breaks the previous record
0.04 I&;m 17 years old now and I started
0.04 flying remote control airplanes with my
0.04 dad at the age of six I started getting
0.04 into RC airplanes flying them
0.04 competitively at around the age of 10 my
0.04 name is EV Turner I&;m from Knoxville
0.04 Tennessee right on what&;s your position
0.04 right now uh either first or second I&;m
0.04 not sure so cool to go from flying these
0.04 remote control airplanes third person to
0.04 being able to sit inside of one and
0.04 that&;s really what drew me into it
0.04 multi- GP is very Grassroots everyone&;s
0.04 building their own drones you can do
0.04 whatever you&;d like to these drones to
0.04 make it fly to the best of your ability
0.04 and preferences so I was able to go to a
0.04 local chapter meet with a group of guys
0.04 that were already sanctioned through
0.04 multi-p and get my racing Journey
0.04 started there&;s just so much to fpv
0.04 nowadays and it&;s gotten a lot better
0.04 but having someone there that&;s local
0.04 and can help you out through the
0.04 building and purchasing process is super
0.04 beneficial get the most fun Racing for
0.04 anyone and everyone whether it&;s your
0.04 first race or your 100th race that is
0.04 multi gp&;s goal is to grow the sport of
0.04 drone racing and to make it as fun as
0.04 possible for each and
0.04 [Music]
0.04 everyone so for the world&;s best racers
0.04 in my opinion the multi-p national
0.04 championship is the Pinnacle of the
0.04 sport they take fpv truly uh to a
0.04 worldwide scale if you go on to multi GP
0.04 you will find a tractor in your area and
0.04 you will find Pilots that you can fly
0.04 with whether you want a race or not with
0.04 the multi- GP drone Racing League over
0.04 20,000 pilots from across the world use
0.04 our platform for organizing and making
0.04 drone racing most efficient right behind
0.04 me on this awesome uh track here at
0.04 Daytona stadium in beautiful Daytona
0.04 Florida we&;re battling it out for a DRL
0.04 contract over 10,000
0.04 in cash prizes and bragging
0.04 [Music]
0.04 rights for the last two years we&;ve been
0.04 one of the primary sponsors of the
0.04 multi-b national
0.04 championship at multigp events you can
0.04 just be in the stands as a spectator
0.04 with your own goggles on your face and
0.04 watching the Pilot&;s feed
0.04 live coming from my competitive
0.04 background I really just had a drive to
0.04 want to not be the second best not be
0.04 the third best but to be the best I saw
0.04 and I got to meet all these guys and see
0.04 the community behind it and see how bad
0.04 everyone else wanted it and I knew that
0.04 I had the drive and the will to want it
0.04 more if not the same amount as them so I
0.04 worked very very hard and I came back in
0.04 2018 and actually was able to win my
0.04 first multi-p national
0.04 championship we&;re pretty famous for
0.04 being the main sponsor at U multip iio
0.04 every year it&;s in Muny Indiana in
0.04 August and it&;s pretty much the biggest
0.04 celebration of fpv there&;s 400 500
0.04 Pilots there every year and we all just
0.04 get together and have a great time you
0.04 would think it would be specifically for
0.04 racing but because you have people
0.04 traveling to go to this race and they&;re
0.04 from all over the world you get this
0.04 kind of like mixing Melting Pot of
0.04 people that show up that don&;t even race
0.04 and they&;re just like coming over
0.04 because they know there are going to be
0.04 a lot of top name Pilots
0.04 there it&;s kind of transformed from just
0.04 a race in the last few years to like
0.04 almost this tomorrow landesque style
0.04 event that happens for fpv like they
0.04 have these tiny whoop things where they
0.04 light up hoops and fly through them and
0.04 it&;s a it&;s a fun environment to be
0.04 in take it easy take it easy hold on
0.04 there you go okay let&;s go initially
0.04 there was a whole situation where if you
0.04 plugged in on somebody else&;s Channel
0.04 and that caused someone to crash then
0.04 like the marsh would come if anybody
0.04 Powers up his quad above the allowed
0.04 power level or during another person&;s
0.04 race he was going to hammer and smash to
0.04 quad that was like the rumor and nobody
0.04 had that happened yet it was all Bluff
0.04 and then all of the sudden someone
0.04 turned in on a freestyle flight line and
0.04 it caused someone in a race to crash and
0.04 all these people came over from the race
0.04 and they were all upset and the founder
0.04 of multi GP at the time Chris Thomas was
0.04 over there with the hammer and then I
0.04 was like you won&;t do it and eventually
0.04 yeah he got hammered they literally just
0.04 put the quad on this table and hammered
0.04 it and then I made a video about it and
0.04 it became Hammer gate he ended up um
0.04 replacing it because he felt bad for the
0.04 kid that event is now known as Hammer
0.04 gate plugging in on somebody is the
0.04 worst thing you can do that&;s the
0.04 biggest social faux PA not to mention
0.04 just being rude if somebody&;s flying in
0.04 the air you want to find out what
0.04 channel they&;re on if you&;re on a close
0.04 Channel and you plug in you&;re going to
0.04 block out their view you know they&;re
0.04 going to get all static or they&;re going
0.04 to see your drone on the ground do not
0.04 plug in on people don&;t be that person
0.04 you go out there and you&;re flying
0.04 somebody Powers up you&;re like who who
0.04 powered up who powered up but you got to
0.04 have a sense of humor about it because
0.04 you&;re going to do it to somebody else
0.04 too probably
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 eventually lately I&;ve been more focused
0.04 on the Cinematic side of fpv and a lot
0.04 of the designs are just motiv at by a
0.04 certain shot that someone might might
0.04 want to get and the design is all driven
0.04 by the needs of the the
0.04 [Music]
0.04 pilots one of the designs that really
0.04 got popular of mine um was the squirt
0.04 which is a a tiny little ducted drum
0.04 that I originally designed for Robert
0.04 Macintosh so it&;s a little 3-in
0.04 ducted um drone for carrying a GoPro
0.04 Hero to a little bit slower a little
0.04 more focused on a subject instead of on
0.04 the of a piloting skills I mean
0.04 especially Andy he he created the squirt
0.04 that was you know technology that
0.04 enabled uh people to do shots that were
0.04 not possible before and that created a
0.04 whole new style of shooting uh drone
0.04 videos it&;s just giving people a totally
0.04 new perspective of our world
0.04 [Music]
0.04 flying a cine whoop is very different
0.04 from flying any other rig they bring a
0.04 level of safety to this which is pretty
0.04 nice because now you can fly around
0.04 people and just the general reaction
0.04 that we get from people is really
0.04 [Music]
0.04 positive and then suddenly you have a
0.04 machine that can fly and be touched by
0.04 people and go through people and that&;s
0.04 what I really like about it you can have
0.04 this whole interaction of movement and
0.04 uh then it becomes like kind of like a
0.04 dance between you and the Drone and that
0.04 person and you feel like you&;re actually
0.04 with the person performing with
0.04 [Music]
0.04 them so I did this video with ly lalii
0.04 who is a professional longboarder and we
0.04 just went and did this
0.04 awesome video had a lot of fun he did
0.04 the single greatest uh C video ever
0.04 still the long
0.04 barder and he kept like catching it
0.04 throwing it like going under the
0.04 skateboard you know it was such a
0.04 perfect video and that he had a great
0.04 location had a great subject great music
0.04 great editing and yeah it opened up like
0.04 this whole genre of flying and that&;s
0.04 now like part of I mean it&;s almost 50%
0.04 of what people fly I&;d say and now it&;s
0.04 kind of spawned the whole movement and a
0.04 million clones of uh the original
0.04 design fpv is not just one thing it&;s a
0.04 whole spectrum and it&;s really both for
0.04 me freestyle and cinematic go hand in
0.04 hand um you have to have the
0.04 technicality but you have to have the
0.04 eye as well I have a lot of respect for
0.04 those people that basically night and
0.04 day think about how can we do things
0.04 differently and how can we push
0.04 Innovation to create even cooler shots
0.04 Tommy uh you my god um who came up with
0.04 this you know little conversion of the C
0.04 whoops where you basically Decay it a
0.04 GoPro and then put it on top and that
0.04 became that became a standard now you
0.04 know more often than not you know I have
0.04 a director ask me like oh can you get
0.04 like this close to the guy&;s face I want
0.04 to make out his eyelash and you know fly
0.04 to this tiny little Gap and today we&;re
0.04 at a point where we are literally just
0.04 taking apart a GoPro down to this bare
0.04 minimum so that it can fit onto a small
0.04 little form factor like this I mean look
0.04 at this guy you can pretty much fly this
0.04 through
0.04 [Music]
0.04 anything the third one I have is called
0.04 the thick it&;s an uh 7in X8 which is an
0.04 octocopter so instead of four Motors has
0.04 eight so it can lift uh a bigger camera
0.04 like a black magic pocket or a red
0.04 Komodo the center of mass of the Drone
0.04 is as centered as possible and it&;s it&;s
0.04 quite timely that all these
0.04 manufacturers are coming out with kind
0.04 of smaller form factor cameras that are
0.04 worthy of feature films you know
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 I&;ve been on shoots with uh gab and nerk
0.04 and they&;re like they&;re almost like a
0.04 computer programmed robotic arm they can
0.04 fly the same line again and again and
0.04 again so for a director it&;s almost like
0.04 having this instant camera that can go
0.04 anywhere because you know you never know
0.04 what the directors start throwing at you
0.04 it is definitely skill-based 100%
0.04 [Music]
0.04 uh
0.04 snowboarding uh wake boarding I see a
0.04 lot of wakeboarding content it&;s just
0.04 pretty uh wild some of the stuff that&;s
0.04 out there now like snowboarding is cool
0.04 you know um mountain biking is a perfect
0.04 example
0.04 [Music]
0.04 wing suit Pilots base jumpers
0.04 paragliders all these kind of things
0.04 that previously you couldn&;t really film
0.04 very safely are now possible because of
0.04 fpv and because of mini quads with fpv
0.04 you can get real close to someone and
0.04 you can move in a similar way to that
0.04 person
0.04 [Music]
0.04 around
0.04 [Music]
0.04 mixing drifting and fpv is kind of
0.04 the best of what we&;ve got right now in
0.04 two different hobbies and art forms
0.04 these two together like the two
0.04 troublemakers together just makes sense
0.04 in the end I think he next R A so we are
0.04 constantly hearing what the director
0.04 says and sometimes when we&;re lucky we
0.04 get to be on the big screen over there
0.04 this is also by the way live uh and
0.04 hundreds of thousands of people are
0.04 watching it across the world so you
0.04 better not mess it up cuz if you do
0.04 everyone&;s going to see it live is
0.04 completely it&;s is a completely
0.04 different animal but yeah I love it cuz
0.04 you get to work with new technologies
0.04 and try things out this thing that we
0.04 did no one re did it before in that form
0.04 and we made those fpv drones uh just so
0.04 that they can fly uh with that
0.04 technology on
0.04 [Music]
0.04 I think we all like Adrenaline Junkies
0.04 and a hobby cuz we&;re just looking for
0.04 it with drifting with cars drifting at
0.04 100 m an hour and US flying about a
0.04 meter away from them
0.04 [Music]
0.04 especially when you see some of the
0.04 shots that can be done of drift cars you
0.04 quickly realize there&;s no other way to
0.04 get a shot like this
0.04 [Music]
0.04 drifting an FV just is like the perfect
0.04 match drifting cars are not that super
0.04 fast they always have the same speed it
0.04 looks spectacular because you have
0.04 smokes and tires you know
0.04 bursting and it goes really well with
0.04 each other just because the way a car
0.04 drifts around a corner is very similar
0.04 to how a drone flies on a bank turn is
0.04 very much like a dance when you pair the
0.04 two
0.04 [Music]
0.04 together drifting you know is kind of
0.04 like an art you&;re out there you know
0.04 the drivers are doing the things trying
0.04 to hit those lines smooth trying to get
0.04 that time and the Drone above it is also
0.04 just trying to keep its line above the
0.04 drift car trying to get those smooth
0.04 lines and they just complement each
0.04 other so
0.04 well drifting is very much an art form
0.04 also it&;s got this like technological
0.04 Motors sportsy kind of modification
0.04 culture around it and that&;s like the
0.04 same exact thing as fpv
0.04 uh-
0.04 [Music]
0.04 uh- yeah uh-huh
0.04 uh
0.04 [Music]
0.04 uh-huh a lot of people in the fpv
0.04 community view Atlanta as the mecca they
0.04 want to go there they want to fly these
0.04 spots just having the diversity of like
0.04 a growing expanding City all the foliage
0.04 and then the Melting Pot of people and
0.04 culture that lives here it just
0.04 ultimately became like this amazing fpv
0.04 Mecca early on in fpv so many great fpv
0.04 Pilots seemed to come out of Atlanta and
0.04 they formed this community together that
0.04 was just this amazing birthing ground
0.04 for great fpv skill um I think they all
0.04 made themselves better as a result of
0.04 all these great Pilots being together in
0.04 the same
0.04 Community they&;re like a really special
0.04 breed of people like they have very
0.04 short attention SP and but they are like
0.04 neurotically focused on details at in
0.04 other areas right so so like the
0.04 communication is it&;s like hurting cats
0.04 but um once they&;re on site and and
0.04 everything is ready to go like they make
0.04 magic
0.04 [Music]
0.04 happen when you have a community to
0.04 inspire you to challenge you to show you
0.04 things that you would never have thought
0.04 were possible you become better everyone
0.04 becomes better as a
0.04 [Music]
0.04 result Atlanta specifically in 2016 it
0.04 was all about me Steele skitso and wild
0.04 Willie uh Willard Nick Willard we always
0.04 had this really ambitious like wanting
0.04 to push things all the time and and not
0.04 necessarily trying to stay ahead of the
0.04 Curve it was just something that came
0.04 natural to us meeting up with Kevin and
0.04 John and a couple people I hear
0.04 quads let see what&;s going down we would
0.04 always just push each other I would you
0.04 know be flying around a spot trying to
0.04 find lines and then I would watch Kevin
0.04 I would tap into his feet and be like oh
0.04 I didn&;t know we could do
0.04 that the progression in that little
0.04 group in that little area is just
0.04 intense like you go there you come back
0.04 feeling like you really accomplish
0.04 something huge every pilot down there is
0.04 really killing it God that guy back
0.04 guess who else moved to
0.04 Atlanta have you ever heard of this guy
0.04 I don&;t know it&;s just a big Melting Pot
0.04 of very extreme and uh talented
0.04 people so I just want I&;m just looking
0.04 forward to getting together with a bunch
0.04 of great pilots and a bunch of friends
0.04 and just flying for a Day Kevin is like
0.04 just has this innate like magical like
0.04 skill to find dope spots to fly at it
0.04 was just really easy to go there and
0.04 just on the daily find a new spot that
0.04 was really cool to rip at there&;s so
0.04 many good spots in Atlanta I don&;t know
0.04 if it&;s just because I lived in Atlanta
0.04 for a while because of the schools that
0.04 are there you know Georgia Tech being
0.04 one there&;s a lot of uh technically
0.04 minded people that adopted fpv early on
0.04 and so you have all of these amazing
0.04 office parks that we&;re able to fly it
0.04 has more trees per square mile than any
0.04 other Metropolis in the US
0.04 plugging in all the
0.04 [Music]
0.04 analog this is an amazing spot office
0.04 Parks like this are so much fun there&;s
0.04 so much cool architecture to interact
0.04 with there will be Carnage there will be
0.04 I mean mine won&;t be too broken cuz I&;m
0.04 running the binder AFX frame which is
0.04 the strongest frame on the market right
0.04 now but there will be some Carnage for
0.04 sure when we get together it&;s like you
0.04 know hey what have you been working on
0.04 or what&;s that what&;s changed on your
0.04 drone cuz it&;s always like an
0.04 everchanging process there&;s new
0.04 technology there&;s new equipment there
0.04 might be New Motors New props all of
0.04 this stuff like equ equates to how the
0.04 Drone flies and honestly it&;s just fun
0.04 to interact and kind of share the
0.04 knowledge of what you&;ve done and what
0.04 see what other people have
0.04 done Vista naked Vista oh that&;s hot but
0.04 uh what&;s your controller Still Still X9
0.04 X90 baby you send the lad up and get you
0.04 watching how many times I reside in
0.04 Greenville South Carolina at the moment
0.04 um I&;m a part-time mppb pilot I work a
0.04 lot um whenever I get the chance I go
0.04 out and fly empty parking lots I love it
0.04 probably going to do it till the day I
0.04 die all right I&;m ready to rip let&;s go
0.04 fly
0.04 [Music]
0.04 wo w
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 tet
0.04 terrified wo

0.04 w
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 um frequency management was a lot easier
0.04 with less people um the bigger it gets
0.04 the more confusing it gets the more
0.04 tempers start to come out because people
0.04 plug in and that causes some to crash
0.04 can I power up now on Race
0.04 eight I&;m going to walk over here get
0.04 away from
0.04 y&;all you can only have two four guys up
0.04 in the air at a time so I don&;t want to
0.04 go to a flying spot and have 40 people
0.04 there I want to have like half a dozen
0.04 you have to like find this Middle Ground
0.04 of making it a social event but not too
0.04 big of a social event so that you can
0.04 actually get some flying time in who&;s
0.04 on Race eight
0.04 I&;m on Race eight because at that point
0.04 once there gets to be too much people
0.04 like you can&;t go as far or you can&;t
0.04 you know because then you have video
0.04 issues all right going up on
0.04 eight why are we all on Race eight
0.04 basically instead of swapping the whole
0.04 motor you can just put the this
0.04 piece chunk screw it in we&;re
0.04 [Music]
0.04 done was that I just was doing some
0.04 little
0.04 [Music]
0.04 I&;m I&;m going to go between the pillars
0.04 around the thing turn left then weave it
0.04 in and then up through the Gap and over
0.04 the Dome then down into the Gap and then
0.04 weave out and miss everything and it&;s
0.04 going to be
0.04 [Music]
0.04 awesome
0.04 so s
0.04 [Music]
0.04 oh damn son two in a row so we&;re trying
0.04 to you know hit all these certain
0.04 clipping points and then also be able to
0.04 do it in a smooth fashion um but once he
0.04 did it then you know I&;m falling right
0.04 behind him and then you know you got to
0.04 take it to the next level and that is
0.04 him chasing me or me chasing him getting
0.04 that like double footage the third
0.04 person style footage
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 W no it just doesn&;t
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 power cycle good as new
0.04 mostly I&;m going to take I&;m going to
0.04 take like the the B the B+ it ain&;t the
0.04 A+ but it&;s the B I&;ll take a B
0.04 [Music]
0.04 minus I was like well I can&;t be
0.04 smoother than skitso I can&;t be more
0.04 technical than steel so all I can do is
0.04 like go bigger so I&;m going to do
0.04 that people think is impossible and make
0.04 it possible and that&;s kind of what I
0.04 did
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 w w
0.04 wo wo w we were just power looping
0.04 trying to chase each other cuz it&;s
0.04 always fun trying to follow
0.04 quads especially with analog cuz you
0.04 literally can&;t see anything Kevin
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 you know everybody started doing their
0.04 own thing and moved away so it was
0.04 really nice to come together again and
0.04 see everybody vibing off each other and
0.04 trying to one up each other and flying
0.04 and everything it really did feel like
0.04 like those trips used to be back in the
0.04 day I told stingy that you know I was
0.04 like man this feels like back in the day
0.04 being able to go out and fly with your
0.04 friends is like going to a soccer game
0.04 or you know doing something that allows
0.04 you to hang out with people that are
0.04 like-minded and I really enjoy being
0.04 with them and I hope that you know
0.04 regulation doesn&;t take away from that
0.04 it&;s possible that this could be one of
0.04 the last times when this many people
0.04 come together in one place and fly if
0.04 remote ID goes through a lot of people
0.04 are going to drop out
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 oh
0.04 [Music]
0.04 I mean the the the trippiest thing for
0.04 me when I started was to take off and
0.04 circle myself and see myself
0.04 [Music]
0.04 fly it actually does provide this kind
0.04 of spiritual experience I mean you
0.04 literally are having an out of- body
0.04 experience and I think one of the the
0.04 first times you really bug out when
0.04 you&;re flying is the first time you are
0.04 flying and you see yourself you&;re like
0.04 oh that&;s me and not in my body it&;s you
0.04 see like a a GT GTA version of yourself
0.04 with a remote controller I mean see
0.04 myself standing there while I was
0.04 clearly in this little machine for me in
0.04 my head it was like it was literally an
0.04 outer body experience the first time it
0.04 it&;s 100% out of- body experience and I
0.04 say all the time like when I&;m flying
0.04 I&;m like oh drone me did this because
0.04 that&;s what it is at that point when
0.04 you&;re flying and the goggles on you&;re
0.04 two separate beings your human you
0.04 that&;s controlling things and your drone
0.04 you that&;s flying
0.04 [Music]
0.04 around I think what we&;re all looking
0.04 for is that state of flow you you are
0.04 essentially one with the craft you&;re
0.04 not fighting it you&;re not you&;re not
0.04 trying to overthink what you&;re doing
0.04 and everything is just natural where
0.04 there resonating with the
0.04 [Music]
0.04 environment to really make very smooth
0.04 movements you have to kind of anticipate
0.04 where your drone is going to be in the
0.04 next 10 seconds and you have to um make
0.04 the movement transition into that state
0.04 so just have that state of flow where
0.04 you never appear to hesitate and it
0.04 always feels like you know where you&;re
0.04 going next just Everything feels like
0.04 it&;s going right you feel completely
0.04 connected to the quad all the tricks are
0.04 leading into each other and flowing
0.04 between each other perfectly and you
0.04 just get this amazing sense of of bliss
0.04 and accomplishment
0.04 [Music]
0.04 but I get like this kind of release of
0.04 endorphins by getting into the Flow
0.04 State and being able to control a drone
0.04 in a way that I just don&;t even realize
0.04 is happening I can describe it other
0.04 than being in a state of flow and it&;s
0.04 an addictive state to be in
0.04 [Music]
0.04 there&;s never there&;s never a ceiling
0.04 you&;ve never figured out every trick
0.04 figured out every flow mastered every
0.04 possible line if you think you have
0.04 you&;re just not being creative enough
0.04 you you can&;t get this experience any
0.04 other way it&;s beyond the the
0.04 capabilities of the human
0.04 [Music]
0.04 body everything thing is like making
0.04 noise at you and then you put on your
0.04 goggles and for 3 to 5 minutes it&;s
0.04 absolute silence and you&;re just focus
0.04 on that screen right in front of you
0.04 when you get to the point of entering
0.04 that flow State it&;s ultimate happiness
0.04 you&;re not worried about anything else
0.04 there&;s nothing in the world there&;s no
0.04 stress there&;s no anxiety there&;s no
0.04 depression there&;s no hate there&;s none
0.04 of that it&;s just you and the quad when
0.04 when you&;re in that you&;re you&;re no
0.04 longer thinking about anything other
0.04 than the movement that that&;s
0.04 happening everything else turns off
0.04 except for the one or two things in your
0.04 brain that you need to
0.04 fly I&;d also even say that it becomes
0.04 effortless at that point once you get
0.04 into this crazy Nirvana State when you
0.04 hit that man it&;s like there&;s nothing
0.04 nothing else like
0.04 [Music]
0.04 it we just go out of our bodies and
0.04 suddenly you&;re
0.04 [Music]
0.04 [Applause]
0.04 [Music]
0.04 Limitless oh
0.04 oh
0.04 [Music]
0.04 before you go if you&;re interested in
0.04 watching the entire Flow State film from
0.04 start to finish with no ads and in much
0.04 better image quality than YouTube gives
0.04 you not all 1080ps are made equal some
0.04 1080ps are higher bit rate and better
0.04 image quality than others if you want
0.04 all that there&;s two options number one
0.04 you can buy the film on Vimeo there&;s a
0.04 link in the video description below to
0.04 where you can pick that up or if you&;re
0.04 one of those people who still collects
0.04 and watches physical media I know you&;re
0.04 out there we sell it on Blu-ray and
0.04 again there&;s a link in the video
0.04 description below as well on the other
0.04 hand if you want to keep watching on
0.04 YouTube all the videos are in a playlist
0.04 including the outakes and directors cut
0.04 stuff the stuff that didn&;t make the
0.04 final edit uh and I&;ll put cards on
0.04 screen and links in the video
0.04 description to those see you there
